Descartes is trusted by a panel of Arated (re)insurers to carry out its activities.

ABOUT YOUR ROLE

Due to rapid growth we are seeking to recruit a Data Science Intern (end of studies)to further expand our Underwriting Data Science team for a period of 6 months. Atthe core of our companys strategy your missions will focus on making directcontributions to the development of new climate models or forecasting tools.

Your responsibilities would include:

• Improving or developing new models to improve our understanding ofclimate;
• Participating in the development of Descartes technological platform;
• Identifying implementing and deploying new statistical and machine learningmethods to differentiate Descartes from its competitors;
• Collaborating with the business team to fully understand our B2B client needsand further strengthen our technical excellence;
• Participating in our R&D sessions.

ABOUT YOU

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

• Final year Masters student in computer science data science appliedmathematics physics statistics or meteorological studies;
• Ideally a previous professional experience (internship and/or project) in DataScience.

SKILLS

• Keen interest in climate related topics;
• Highly skilled in statistics applied mathematics and machine learningmethods;
• Fluency in English (written and verbal communication) required;
• Proficiency in Python.

MINDSET

• Interested in weather and natural perils modelling (wildfires hail tsunamisearthquakes etc);
• Strong team spirit and ability to work under pressure;
• Highly motivated able to meet deadlines set;
• Strong desire to learn and commitment to the organizations mission;
