Job Description: Head of Early Years (CambridgeTrained)

Position: Head of Early Years

Department: Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Location: Blantyre Malawi

Reports to: Head of school/ Deputy Head of School

Job Purpose:

To lead and manage the Early Years department ensuring a highquality Cambridgealigned educational experience that fosters the social emotional cognitive and physical development of young learners. The Head of Early Years will implement and maintain Cambridge Early Years standards train and support teachers and collaborate with parents to provide a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Management

Lead the development and implementation of the Early Years curriculum in alignment with Cambridge standards and best practices.

Supervise mentor and provide continuous professional development for Early Years staff.

Conduct regular performance evaluations and set development goals with team members.

Ensure effective classroom management and high standards of behavior across all Early Years classes.

2. Curriculum Development and Teaching

Design and oversee a childcentred inquirybased curriculum that nurtures all aspects of a child s development.

Ensure lesson plans are prepared meet learning objectives and are differentiated to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities.

Monitor and evaluate the impact of teaching methods adjusting strategies as needed to maximize student outcomes.

Organize and lead extracurricular activities projects and events that complement the Early Years curriculum.

3. Quality Assurance and Standards Compliance

Maintain and uphold Cambridge Early Years standards and ensure regulatory compliance with all relevant educational policies.

Develop and implement assessment and reporting strategies that accurately reflect each child s progress.

Conduct regular audits to ensure resources environment and activities are safe developmentally appropriate and enriching.

4. Parental Engagement and Communication

Establish effective communication channels with parents keeping them informed of their child s progress events and milestones.

Facilitate workshops orientations and parentteacher meetings to build strong partnerships with parents.

Address any concerns or issues parents may have ensuring a supportive open line of communication.

5. Operational and Administrative Tasks

Manage resources budgets and scheduling to ensure efficient operation of the Early Years department.

Collaborate with school leadership on strategic planning policies and goals for Early Years.

Prepare regular reports on department progress student outcomes and areas for improvement.

6. Safeguarding and Child Welfare

Ensure a safe secure environment for all children adhering to child safeguarding policies and procedures.

Regularly review and update risk assessments safety protocols and emergency procedures within the department.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education: Bachelor s or Master s degree in Early Childhood Education Primary Education or a related field.

Certification: Cambridge Early Years qualification or training is essential.

Experience: Minimum of 7 years experience in an Early Years teaching role with at least 3 years in a leadership position.

Skills: Strong knowledge of Cambridge Early Years standards child development theories and ageappropriate teaching methods.

Excellent leadership communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with staff parents and external stakeholders.

Personal Attributes:

Passionate about Early Years education and committed to fostering a supportive and inspiring learning environment.

Patient empathetic and able to handle diverse classroom challenges effectively.
