Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Reporting to the Department Head of Mathematics, the Assistant Professor should be an experienced educator with creative and innovating skills, capable of effectively planning, developing, and delivering courses in all areas of the undergraduate curriculum, especially first- and third-year statistics and research methods courses within UDST’s College of General Education. We are seeking an exceptional educator and researcher who excels in teaching and scholarship, actively mentors’ students, contributes to institutional and community service, collaborates across disciplines, and pursues professional development initiatives.
A strong research record (publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, or a demonstrated trajectory of research activity) with the ability to carry out independent and collaborative research.
Ability to apply statistical methods to solve real-world problems in fields such as healthcare, social sciences, business, engineering, or environmental science.
Expertise in quantitative research methodologies and experience with research design, data collection, statistical analysis, and interpretation.
Teaching & Pedagogical Skills:

A passion for teaching and the ability to communicate complex statistical concepts clearly and effectively to students from diverse academic backgrounds.
Experience in teaching or assisting in the teaching of introductory and advanced statistics courses, such as probability, statistical inference, regression analysis, survey sampling, and statistical computing.
Ability to design engaging course materials, including syllabi, lectures, problem sets, and lab exercises that help students understand and apply statistical concepts.


Desired candidate profile

    • Experience with graduate student supervision, especially in mentoring students on theses or dissertation projects, is an asset.
    • Demonstrated experience in designing assessment methods, such as exams, projects, lab reports, and presentations, to evaluate students' understanding of statistical concepts.
    • Familiarity with teaching assistants or other instructional support staff to manage course delivery and ensure smooth operations.
  • Research Experience:

    • A record of peer-reviewed publications in reputable statistical or interdisciplinary journals. Early-career researchers are encouraged to demonstrate the potential for impactful future work.
    • Experience in obtaining research funding or participating in research grants (e.g., through National Science Foundation (NSF) or National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants) is a plus.
    • Experience in interdisciplinary research collaborations, particularly in applying statistics to other fields (e.g., biology, economics, engineering, or social sciences), is highly valued.
  • Collaboration & Consulting:

    • Proven ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and industry partners in interdisciplinary research or consulting projects.
    • Experience in providing statistical consulting services to researchers or professionals from various disciplines who need expertise in data analysis and statistical modeling.
