Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Provide oversight and due diligence inspection of all electrical and electronic equipment and shipboard installations during the construction of LNG vessels to be built at shipbuilding site for the Nakilat newbuilding programs. Attend to scheduled inspections, commissioning(s), tests, demonstrations, and trials assigned in accordance with the shipbuilder's published schedule This includes formal inspections, tests that may be scheduled outside of the main shipbuilding facility, including but not limited to vendor’s shop tests.

Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities:

  • Conduct regular inspections of the shipbuilder’s production of the vessel(s) under construction at shipbuilding site. Focusing on all electrical and electronic equipment and shipboard installations such as electric power generation, electric switchboards, power distribution, wiring, lighting, load analysis and balances, bridge electronics, communications, control systems, vessel automation, FMEA, and other related items as assigned by the Site Team Manager.
  • Ensure that the ships fully meet the expectations of the shareholders and are in accordance with the Shipbuilding Contract Agreement, specifications, approved plans, and the various memorandums of agreement.
  • Confirm that all equipment and systems are properly installed and commissioned.
  • Attend all scheduled inspections, commissioning(s), tests, demonstrations, and trials in accordance with the shipbuilder’s published schedule for these items as assigned in his scope of work.
  • Coordinate with other Inspectors as may be required.
  • Ensure that all shareholder SHES policies are fully implemented and adhered to and act to bring all areas of concern to the immediate attention of the Safety Coordinator and the Site Team Manager.
  • Coordinate work to bring each vessel into service on schedule.

  • Adhere to all relevant SHEQ policies, procedures, instructions, and controls so that NAKILAT provides a safe, world class, secure and environmentally responsible service to customers, the public and its own people.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures:

  • Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.

Others:

  • Carry out any other related duties as directed by Electrical Lead to support the shipbuilding initiatives and projects.

Desired candidate profile

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification

Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in electrical and electronic installations or similar.
  • Experience in the construction of bulk liquids vessels, of which two(2) years is of direct shipping experience involved with construction of LNG carriers and HV systems.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the ship electrical systems and installations.

Job Specific Skills:

  • Proficiency in and have an experience in electrical and electronic installations that includes electric power generation, electric switchboards, power distribution, wiring, lighting, load analysis and balances, bridge electronics, communications, control systems, vessel automation, FMEA.
  • Good written and spoken English language skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, to be used when dealing with individuals of various levels of authority and of diverse cultural backgrounds.
  • Good leadership and problem-solving skills when faced with complex ship construction issues.
  • Proficient in the use of word processor and spreadsheet software (especially Microsoft Word and Excel), including the ability to prepare periodical status reports.
