Roles and responsibilities
Lead and conduct inspection of all machinery matters during the construction of a number of LNG / LPG vessels to be built at the shipbuilding site for the Nakilat newbuilding programs. Ensure site team attendance at all scheduled inspections, commissioning, tests, demonstrations, and trials in accordance with the shipbuilder's published schedule for these items. Conduct formal inspections, tests that may be scheduled outside of the main shipbuilding facility, including but not limited to vendor's shop tests. Machinery matters include main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, engine room piping systems, machinery arrangements, and other related items.
Accountabilities
Key Accountabilities:
- Regular inspection and oversight of the shipbuilder's production of the vessel(s) currently under construction at this shipbuilding site. Specific areas of concern include all machinery matters such as main propulsion machinery, auxiliary machinery, engine room piping systems, machinery arrangements, and other related items as assigned by the Site Team Manager.
- Act to ensure that the shipbuilder's efforts fully meet the expectations of the shareholders and are in accordance with the Contract, Specifications. approved plans, and the various memorandums of agreement.
- Confirm that all installed equipment and systems are properly arranged and are accessible for routine inspection and maintenance.
- Attend or appoint for attendance a member of the site staff at all scheduled inspections, commissioning, tests, demonstrations, and trials in accordance with the shipbuilder's published schedule for these items as assigned in his scope of work.
- Propose design changes (with or without cost) to improve the vessel's design, operation, and/or maintainability to the Site Coordinator for consideration and approval.
- Coordinate efforts with the other Lead Inspectors as may be required.
- Act to ensure that all shareholder SHES policies are fully implemented and adhered to and acts to bring areas of concern to the immediate attention of the Safety Coordinator and the Site Team Manager.
- Coordinate schedules and work steps to bring each vessel into service at delivery.

- Follow all relevant departmental policies, processes, and procedures so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner.
Others:
- Carry out any other related duties as directed by Site Team Manager to support the shipbuilding initiatives and projects.
Desired candidate profile
- Bachelor of Science degree in Naval Architecture and/or Marine Engineering, or Chief Engineer's License with at least five (5) years of LNG vessel experience.
Experience:
- Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in the construction of large bulk liquids vessels, including at least five (5) years of direct shipbuilding experience involved with the construction of LNG /LPG carriers, or equivalent experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the ship design and construction business.
Job Specific Skills:
- Good written and spoken English language skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, to be used when dealing with individuals of various levels of authority and of diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Capable of hands-on supervision of a field staff of locally hired inspectors.
- Good leadership and problem-solving skills when faced with complex ship construction issues.
- Proficient in the use of word processor and spreadsheet software (especially Microsoft Word and Excel), including the ability to prepare professional status reports.
- SHES Training in accordance with shareholder policies.
