Role and Responsibilities:
The Die Maker s responsibilities include preparing the dies for press monitoring the process while it is in premake ready checking the final product for quality. He or she is also responsible for communication with CAD department and help on press or premake ready when needed.
Objective:
- o Knife incoming dies re knife existing dies and help operators when needed.
Equipment:
Tasks performed:
- Work with CAD department on schedule.
- Pull files on Easy Bender Turbo.
- Rule up die according to stock and caliper.
- Tap off sample and compare CAD sample for structure.
- Prepare all tooling for the die cutting equipment as scheduled.
- Nick and rubber steel rule dies per equipment guidelines.
- Prepare counter plate for press per job requirements (matrix phenolic steel).
- Build and preset stripping components to make press ready.
- Build and preset blanking components to make press ready.
- Tooling storage and die log
- Evaluate tooling returned from the previous job.
- Read notes on job jacket and die log if needed (reknife / rework).
o Responsible for issuing storage locations.
o Responsible for maintaining integrity of die tooling storage.
Other tasks:
o Mount emboss / deboss dies
o Maintain appropriate inventory of die room supplies
o Communicate with other departments (status updates)
o Special projects (repairs / construct jigs)
o Suggest and implement improvements within the department and/or other departments.
o Responsible for ensuring safety procedures. Maintain a safe and hazard free work environment. Also responsible for being conscious of safety guidelines and reporting safety hazard corrections when indicated.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Education:
High school diploma
College education preferred
35 years in industry specific experience
Previous die cut operator experience preferred
Skills & Qualifications:
Proficient in math writing and computer skills.
Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including effective interpersonal skills. Must also have working knowledge of Excel Spreadsheets and Outlook software.
Must be detail oriented and possess a working knowledge of industry specific information. (Die cutting)
Must be mechanically inclined
Experience with machinery or power tools required
Must be able to read measurements (tape rule caliper)
Physical Demands:
- Job function requires lifting to a maximum of 50 pounds with intermittent stooping and bending.
- Job function requires the ability to work in a standing position continuously.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Work environment is not temperature controlled.
