Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

  • Diagnosis and Treatment Planning:

    • Examine and diagnose issues related to the dental pulp and root tissues, including infections, inflammation, and trauma.
    • Review patient medical and dental histories, perform physical examinations, and take necessary diagnostic images (X-rays, CBCT) to create accurate treatment plans.
    • Recommend and develop individualized treatment plans tailored to patients' specific conditions, focusing on saving natural teeth.
  • Endodontic Procedures:

    • Perform a range of endodontic treatments, including root canal therapy, endodontic retreatments, apicoectomy (root-end surgery), and pulp capping.
    • Treat and manage dental trauma cases, including cracked or fractured teeth and tooth avulsion.
    • Manage post-procedure care, including follow-up appointments to ensure healing and prevent complications.
  • Patient Education:

    • Educate patients on the importance of maintaining oral health, explaining procedures and expected outcomes in clear and understandable terms.
    • Provide guidance on post-treatment care, including pain management, diet, and oral hygiene recommendations to promote healing.
  • Collaboration with General Dentists:

    • Work closely with general dentists and other specialists in multi-disciplinary cases (e.g., periodontists, orthodontists) to ensure comprehensive patient care.
    • Provide referrals to other specialists when necessary for more complex cases or further interventions.
  • Clinical Recordkeeping:

    • Maintain accurate, detailed, and up-to-date patient records, including diagnoses, treatments, and progress notes.
    • Utilize dental software to manage appointments, treatment plans, and billing in accordance with clinic protocols.
  • Advanced Endodontic Technologies:

    • Stay current with the latest endodontic technologies, techniques, and research, and integrate these into clinical practice (e.g., microsurgery, laser endodontics, 3D imaging).
    • Use tools such as digital radiography, cone beam CT scans, and operating microscopes to improve treatment outcomes and precision.
  • Emergency Care:

    • Provide urgent care for patients experiencing acute pain, infections, or dental trauma, ensuring timely and effective interventions.
    • Manage dental infections with appropriate antibiotics and follow-up care, when necessary.
  • Continuing Education:

    • Participate in ongoing professional development and stay informed about advancements in the field of endodontics through courses, workshops, and conferences.
    • Share knowledge and techniques with junior staff, dental residents, or colleagues as part of a collaborative learning environment.

  • Clinical Expertise:

    • Proficient in a wide range of endodontic procedures, including root canal therapy, endodontic retreatments, root-end surgeries, and management of dental trauma.
    • Expertise in advanced diagnostic tools and technologies, such as digital radiography, CBCT (Cone Beam CT), and operating microscopes.
    • Ability to manage complex and challenging cases with a focus on precision and patient comfort.
  • Patient-Centered Approach:

    • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with patients.
    • Experience in working with anxious or fearful patients, providing reassurance, and maintaining a calm and professional demeanor.
    • Sensitivity to patient needs, ensuring a high standard of care and excellent patient outcomes.
  • Problem-Solving and Critical Thinking:

    • Strong diagnostic skills to identify issues related to the dental pulp, root, and surrounding tissues.
    • Ability to develop and implement effective treatment plans, considering patient history and clinical findings.
  • Attention to Detail:

    • High attention to detail and precision in performing clinical procedures.
    • Ability to document patient information accurately and comprehensively.
  • Team Collaboration:

    • Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating effectively with other dentists, specialists, and support staff.
    • Ability to mentor and support junior dental staff and residents in their training.
  • Technological Competence:

    • Proficiency in the use of endodontic tools and technology, including microsurgical instruments, root canal navigation systems, and digital diagnostic tools.
    • Comfort using dental practice management software for scheduling, patient records, and billing.
  • Professionalism:

    • High ethical standards, with a focus on patient confidentiality and the maintenance of professional integrity.
    • Active membership in professional dental associations (e.g., American Association of Endodontists, American Dental Association).
