Groupon is looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to join our dynamic Merchant Center team. As an Engineering Manager, you'll lead a talented group of engineers dedicated to enhancing and scaling the platform that merchants use to manage their campaigns, analytics, and customer engagement. Your mission will be to deliver high-impact, scalable solutions that drive merchant success and engagement. You will play a key role in mentoring your team, ensuring high-quality code, and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: You will lead a team of software engineers focused on developing microservices at the scale required for a platform like Groupon. This will involve not only technical leadership but also fostering a collaborative and inclusive environment where engineers can thrive.
Hiring and Mentorship: A big part of your role will be recruiting top talent, mentoring your direct reports, and helping them grow into strong engineers and leaders. You’ll ensure that each engineer has the support they need to succeed, both technically and professionally.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: You will work closely with product and commercial teams to understand and prioritize user needs, ensuring that your team is building features that align with business objectives and deliver real value to our merchants.
Execution and Delivery: Your team will be responsible for the ongoing delivery and maintenance of services that power the Merchant Center. This includes overseeing the daily operations of your services, ensuring reliability, and continuously improving the system’s scalability and performance.
Process Improvement: You’ll lead the charge in optimizing the team’s engineering practices, from code quality to deployment processes. By focusing on continuous improvement, you’ll help the team deliver faster, more efficiently, and with higher quality.
Ideal Candidate:
We’re looking for a leader who has a passion for technology, a commitment to building strong teams, and a focus on delivering real value. The ideal candidate will have:
Technical Expertise: A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, with at least 8 years of experience in software development. You should have experience designing and implementing large, scalable, distributed systems using technologies like Java, Node.js/Express, and React.js. Backend expertise with RESTful APIs and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) is a must.
Leadership Experience: At least 2 years of experience leading a team of engineers, guiding them through challenges, and helping them grow professionally. You should be a role model for your team, providing guidance, mentorship, and timely feedback.
Strong Communication Skills: You’ll need to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring alignment on project goals and timelines.
Continuous Improvement: A commitment to refining processes and engineering practices to increase efficiency, quality, and overall team performance.
