Roles and responsibilities
- Provide medical care and emergency response services to personnel on a land-based oil or gas drilling rig
- Ensure a safe working environment and implement measures to prevent injuries and illnesses
Responsibilities:
1. Emergency Response:
- Respond to medical emergencies, such as injuries, illnesses, and accidents
- Provide first aid, CPR, and basic life support as needed
2. Medical Care:
- Assess and treat minor injuries and illnesses
- Administer medications and vaccinations as needed
- Conduct medical exams and screenings
3. Health and Safety:
- Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments
- Develop and implement safety protocols and procedures
- Provide safety training and education to personnel
4. Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate and confidential medical records
- Document incidents, injuries, and illnesses
5. Communication:
- Collaborate with rig personnel, management, and external medical professionals
- Communicate effectively with emergency services and transportation providers
6. Equipment and Supplies:
- Maintain and inspect medical equipment and supplies
- Ensure adequate stock of medical supplies and equipment
Desired candidate profile
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergency calls, providing immediate care to individuals who are injured, ill, or in critical condition.
- Patient Assessment: Perform initial assessments of patients, including checking vital signs (pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure) and evaluating the severity of injuries or illnesses.
- First Aid and Life Support: Administer basic life support (BLS) and advanced life support (ALS) techniques, such as CPR, defibrillation, oxygen therapy, and medication administration (for paramedics).
- Stabilization: Stabilize patients for transport by ambulance or air, ensuring that they are monitored and kept comfortable during transit.
- Transport Coordination: Work with medical professionals and hospital staff to ensure that patients are transferred safely to a medical facility for further care.
- Documentation: Record and report patient details, assessments, treatments, and other vital information for hospital staff upon arrival.
Key Skills:

- Proficiency in emergency medical procedures and techniques (CPR, advanced airway management, medication administration)
- Ability to remain calm and focused under pressure
- Strong communication skills for working with patients, families, and other medical professionals
- Knowledge of medical equipment, such as defibrillators, stretchers, oxygen systems, and splints
Certifications:
- EMT-Basic, EMT-Intermediate, EMT-Advanced, or Paramedic Certification from recognized organizations like National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) in the U.S.
- CPR/First Aid Certification
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) for paramedics.
