This role is vital for overseeing material selection, corrosion monitoring, and related activities in upstream offshore projects. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in material science and corrosion engineering, with a deep understanding of industry standards and technologies.
Corrosion Assessment and Monitoring:
Conduct inspections, tests, and evaluations to assess the extent of corrosion on metals, pipes, tanks, structures, and equipment.
Use advanced tools and techniques like ultrasonic testing, electrochemical sensors, and visual inspections to monitor corrosion rates and assess material degradation.
Evaluate the performance of protective coatings, cathodic protection systems, and corrosion inhibitors to ensure they are functioning effectively.
Corrosion Prevention and Control:
Design and implement corrosion control programs, including the selection of suitable materials, coatings, inhibitors, and cathodic protection systems.
Develop preventive maintenance schedules for corrosion inspection and remediation.
Work with engineers and designers to select corrosion-resistant materials or coatings for new projects, ensuring that the right materials are chosen for the operating environment.
Corrosion Failure Analysis:
Investigate and analyze the causes of corrosion failures in materials and structures, determining the underlying factors contributing to material degradation.
Perform root cause analysis (RCA) on failed components, using techniques such as fracture analysis, metallography, and chemical analysis.
Recommend corrective actions to prevent future failures and improve long-term material performance.
Material Selection and Performance:
Advise on the selection of corrosion-resistant materials for new construction, design, or retrofitting projects.
Assess the compatibility of materials and coatings with the expected operating environment, taking into account factors such as temperature, humidity, chemical exposure, and mechanical stress.
Ensure that materials comply with industry standards and specifications (e.g., ASTM, ISO, NACE, API).
Corrosion Modeling and Risk Assessment:
Use computational tools and corrosion modeling techniques to predict corrosion rates and assess risks based on environmental conditions and materials.
Develop and implement risk-based inspection and maintenance strategies to manage and mitigate corrosion-related risks in critical infrastructure or systems.
Collaborate with other departments to develop safety procedures and contingency plans for corrosion-related failures.
Protective Coatings and Surface Treatments:
Design and evaluate protective coatings and surface treatments, such as galvanization, paint coatings, and thermal spraying, to protect materials from corrosion.
Test the effectiveness of coatings under different environmental conditions (e.g., marine environments, chemical exposure, or high temperatures).
Recommend and implement surface treatment processes such as anodizing, electropolishing, and passivation to improve the corrosion resistance of metals.
Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering with a focus on Materials and Corrosion, or Material Science.
Should have Proficiency in Microsoft Office,
Expert knowledge of technical design software tools, including ECE and Predict.
NACE Corrosion Specialist certification is considered a plus.
Minimum of 15 years in a similar position within an EPC company.
Technical Knowledge:
Extensive experience in the upstream offshore industry with a strong background in corrosion monitoring and material selection.
In-depth knowledge of international standards related to corrosion and materials (NACE, ASME, API, ISO, DNV, NORSOK).
Proven experience in offshore EPC projects, demonstrating the ability to lead and manage complex projects effectively.
Updated knowledge of the latest industry technologies related to anticorrosion.
