Hardware Networking Engineer

Roles and responsibilities

• Manage networking systems and projects in key operational areas.
• Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of networking infrastructure to support operational requirements effectively.
• Duties and Responsibilities:
  
  • Network Design and Planning:
    
    • Design and plan network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, wireless) that aligns with business needs and growth.
    • Select suitable hardware, software, and protocols with scalability in mind for future expansion.
  • Implementation and Configuration:
    
    • Supervise the installation and configuration of networking equipment such as routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
    • Deploy and integrate network software, ensuring that robust security measures are in place.
  • Connectivity Management:
    
    • Establish and maintain connectivity among devices, servers, and systems, ensuring smooth operation.
    • Troubleshoot and resolve network infrastructure issues to minimize operational downtime.
  • Performance Optimization:
    
    • Monitor network performance, identifying areas for improvement and efficiency gains.
    • Optimize network settings for efficient data transmission, and implement QoS mechanisms.
  • Security Implementation:
    
    • Design and implement security measures, including firewalls, encryption, and intrusion detection systems.
    • Regularly conduct security audits, updating and patching security components as needed.
  • Capacity Planning:
    
    • Assess network capacity and plan for future expansion, upgrading infrastructure to accommodate increased data traffic.
    • Conduct feasibility studies to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
  • Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
    
    • Employ troubleshooting methods to diagnose and resolve network-related issues swiftly and effectively.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    
    • Maintain thorough documentation of network configurations, topology, and changes.
    • Develop network diagrams and documentation for troubleshooting and future reference.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    
    • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure timely deployment and integration of network solutions.
    • Collaborate with system administrators, security teams, and application developers to maintain a cohesive IT environment.
  • Training and Knowledge Transfer:
    
    • Provide training and technical support to junior engineers and technicians.
    • Stay updated with industry trends and share knowledge with the team.
  • Emergency Response and Continuous Improvement:
    
    • Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for network infrastructure.
    • Respond to network breaches or incidents, mitigating impacts efficiently.

Desired candidate profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining networking systems.
• Proficiency in networking protocols (TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs) and routing protocols.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality.

Experience:

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in networking engineering, including designing large networks and implementing major changes in critical environments.
• Hands-on experience with networking equipment and tools (routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points).
• Familiarity with industry standards and best practices, with certifications such as Cisco CCNP and Fortinet NSE 7.
• Experience working in industrial or plant environments is an advantage.
