Design and Development:
Design HVAC systems: Develop HVAC systems for new buildings or facility upgrades, ensuring the systems meet energy efficiency standards, comfort requirements, and local building codes.
Perform load calculations: Conduct heating and cooling load calculations using software tools (like Trane Trace, Carrier HAP, or other load estimation software) to determine equipment size and system requirements.
Create system layouts: Design ductwork, piping layouts, and system configurations for heating, cooling, and ventilation, ensuring optimal airflow and energy efficiency.
Energy optimization: Design systems to optimize energy use and cost, incorporating alternative energy sources when possible, such as solar thermal or geothermal systems.
System Selection and Sizing:
Select equipment: Choose appropriate heating and cooling units (e.g., chillers, heat pumps, air handling units, fan coil units), based on system requirements and efficiency standards.
Size equipment: Use industry-standard software to calculate the size of equipment, ductwork, and piping to ensure proper operation.
Integration with other systems: Ensure HVAC systems are integrated with building control systems (e.g., Building Management Systems or BMS) for seamless operation and efficiency.
Installation and Commissioning:
Project management: Supervise and manage the installation of HVAC systems, ensuring compliance with specifications, codes, and safety standards.
Quality control and inspection: Inspect the installation process for adherence to plans and specifications, ensuring systems are properly installed and functional.
System commissioning: Oversee commissioning processes, including system start-up, calibration, and troubleshooting to ensure everything operates according to design.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Provide maintenance plans: Develop schedules for preventative maintenance of HVAC systems, including filter replacements, refrigerant checks, and inspection of all mechanical components.
Troubleshoot system issues: Identify and resolve mechanical, electrical, and control system issues in HVAC units, ensuring minimal downtime and optimized system performance.
Energy audits: Conduct energy audits of HVAC systems and recommend improvements for energy savings and increased system performance.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure regulatory compliance: Ensure HVAC systems comply with local, national, and international codes and regulations, such as ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers) standards and building codes.
Sustainability: Incorporate sustainability practices by using energy-efficient technologies, such as variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems or advanced heat recovery technologies.
Health and safety: Design systems that improve indoor air quality (IAQ) and meet the needs of building occupants, including ventilation, humidity control, and temperature regulation.
