Technical and Business Skills • Familiar with a wide variety, type and condition of vessels considered for the carriage of Company cargoes to the Customer. • High degree of flexibility and ability to demonstrate conceptual thinking skills. • Understanding and knowledge of Safety Health and Environmental Standards as they relate to the Oil & Gas Industry and the Marine Environment. • Sound knowledge and understanding of Quality Management Concepts. • Strong working understanding from Charterer/Seller perspective, of Commercial processes and documentation, as they relate to the Marine transportation of LNG and Hydrocarbon Products.
Marine Vessel Operations and Management:
In-depth knowledge of vessel operations, including managing the day-to-day operations of ships, offshore platforms, or boats.
Familiarity with shipboard systems (navigation, propulsion, ballast, electrical, safety equipment) and their upkeep.
Knowledge of vessel maintenance schedules and ensuring compliance with class society and flag state regulations.
Marine Safety and Environmental Compliance:
Expertise in maritime safety standards and regulations (e.g., IMO SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM Code, ISPS Code).
Experience in marine environmental protection, including preventing oil spills, managing ballast water, and reducing emissions.
Knowledge of safety management systems (SMS), emergency response procedures, and shipboard safety drills.
Ability to conduct risk assessments, safety audits, and ensure vessels comply with international environmental standards and local regulations.
Marine Surveying and Inspections:
Conducting marine surveys for vessel inspections, including condition surveys, cargo inspections, and classification surveys.
Assessing vessel integrity, including checking the hull, machinery, and systems to ensure compliance with maritime safety and technical standards.
Ensuring class certification and flag state compliance for ships, including overseeing renewal surveys and reporting any discrepancies or non-compliance.
Marine Regulations and Licensing:
Deep understanding of international maritime regulations and the ability to ensure compliance with national and international standards (e.g., IMO, SOLAS, MARPOL, ISPS, STCW).
Coordinating and ensuring that all licenses and certificates (e.g., Safety Management System, Pollution Prevention, International Load Line Certificate) are up-to-date.
Offshore Operations Expertise:
Specialized knowledge of offshore operations in the oil and gas industry, including platform management, subsea operations, and supply vessel coordination.
Understanding of dynamic positioning systems (DPS) used in offshore drilling units and the procedures for platform and vessel stability.
Leadership and Team Management:
Proven ability to lead and manage teams on board ships or at offshore sites, ensuring that crew members are well-trained, safety protocols are followed, and operations run smoothly.
Ability to provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff or crew members, fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
Communication Skills:
Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact with the ship crew, contractors, port authorities, regulatory agencies, and senior management.
Ability to produce clear reports and documentation on marine operations, inspections, compliance, and performance.
Decision-Making and Critical Thinking:
Ability to make informed decisions quickly, especially in emergency situations, such as man overboard, fire on board, or cargo damage.
Analytical skills to assess operational data and environmental conditions and determine optimal actions to maintain efficiency and safety.
Attention to Detail:
Meticulous attention to detail in reviewing safety protocols, operational procedures, and technical systems aboard ships or offshore platforms.
Ensuring all documentation, reports, and compliance records are accurately completed and filed.
Experience with vessels of various types (e.g., tankers, cargo ships, passenger vessels, offshore rigs) is highly valued.
Experience in marine surveying, offshore operations, and vessel inspections is a significant advantage.
Practical knowledge of marine software, including fleet management systems, navigational tools, and maintenance management tools.
Certifications & Training:
STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping) certification or equivalent.
IMO and MARPOL compliance training.
Certified Marine Surveyor or Marine Engineering Technician certifications.
Oil and Gas Offshore Safety training (e.g., BOSIET, HUET).
Safety Management Systems (SMS) training.
Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) for offshore specialists.
