Job Title: Inpatient Facility Medical Coder

Job Summary:
Kaiser Permanente is seeking an experienced Inpatient Facility Medical Coder to join our remote team. The coder will be responsible for accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes to patient health records including Emergency Department (ED) Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) Hospital Ambulatory Surgical Center (HAS) Observations (OBS) and Inpatient (IP) records. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical coding with a focus on quality and productivity for ICD10CM ICD10PCS and HCPCS/CPT classifications.
Note: Candidates must reside in Oregon or Washington to be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review medical records and assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures.
- Utilize coding software (e.g. Code Base Charge Trigger system OPTUM 360 EncoderPRO) and electronic medical records systems (EpicCare).
- Identify and assign principal diagnoses and procedures ensuring proper classification and sequencing (APC MSDRG APRDRG).
- Perform chart analysis to ensure completeness accuracy and compliance with CMS guidelines.
- Stay current on coding regulations industry trends and coding publications (ICD10 guidelines Coding Clinic CPT Assistant).
- Communicate with physicians to clarify diagnoses and procedures when needed.
- Ensure confidentiality and maintain strong working relationships with staff.
- Meet department standards for coding accuracy and productivity (95%).
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in medical coding with four (4) years specific to inpatient facility coding.
- Certification: Must possess one of the following:
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Advanced knowledge of ICD10CM ICD10PCS HCPCS/CPT and government regulations regarding coding.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology disease processes diagnostic and surgical procedures.
- Proficiency in EMR systems and coding software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Health Information Management.
- Experience in medical record audits and data analysis.
- Knowledge of CMS HCC Risk Adjustment coding.
- Familiarity with Medicare reimbursement guidelines.
