Job Description

Job Purpose

Head of the Department play a key middle management role in their respective department and are responsible for the performance of teachers and students in their respective department. They are responsible for contributing to teaching methodology mentoring supervision professional support and guidance for teachers and students

Teaching and Learning


  • To be there for the teachers within the department in assisting them professionally in all ways possible.
  • Subject specific faculty meetings to be held once a week chaired by the Head of the Department / (Coordinators / Principal wherever available). The points for the meeting are circulated and the minutes of the meeting recorded by a nominated member of the staff.
  • Correction work and submission of Classwork Workbook Record work Composition and all internal assessments are to be checked. To establish and implement a variety of systems and processes which provide good information gathering about students prior learning their progress and achievements and the quality of teaching and learning in the subject.
  • To develop plans/strategies for the subject which identify clear targets (above national/world average) timesscales and success criteria for its development and/or maintenance in line with the School Policy.
  • To develop and implement policies and practices which reflect the school s commitment to high achievement through effective teaching and learning.
  • Work closely with the faculty Coordinators and the Principal so as to encourage teachers to adopt and execute best practices in teaching and learning strategies in the classroom to achieve the desired learning outcomes consistently .

Curriculum/Assessment

  • To oversee the Curriculum Mapping process within the department the vertical and horizontal coordination and alignment of the curriculum.
  • To ensure the progression of concept skills and content acquired in the subject area throughout the academic programme.
  • To engage the respective subject staff in the creation consistent implementation and improvement.




Requirements

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL:

DESIRABLE:


  • Qualification Postgraduate / Doctorate with professional teaching qualification
  • Senior teacher with fifteen year of teaching experience (IBDP/IGCSE preferred).
  • Proven track record of producing excellent board results/ well versed in Unit Plan Documentation.
  • Teacher who has adopted different strategies for teaching learning and possess excellent knowledge of the subject in terms of conceptual understanding skills attributes and dispositions.
  • Has excellent communication skills (written and oral)

QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE: ESSENTIAL: DESIRABLE: Qualification: A graduate level degree with major in Visual Arts (Painting / Sculpture / Print making) Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of full-time teaching experience in mainstream school setting, ideally with experience in an international educational setting Grades the position would be handling: VI-X Attended IB MYP Visual Arts Workshops Ability to teach visual arts in the International Baccalaureate (IB) MYP Programme/Cambridge/ICSE Post graduate from a recognized university COMPETENCIES Functional Competencies: Ability to teach digital media (photography, videography etc.) Innovative teaching techniques IT skills Pedagogical skills Critical thinking skills Assessment and Coaching skills Organization, Planning and time management skills Behavioural Competencies: Excellent written and oral communication skills Interpersonal skills Leadership, collaboration and team management skills Caring and Inclusiveness
