The Academic Tutor plays a pivotal role within the Academic Success Center (ASC), directly reporting to the ASC coordinator at their respective campus. This position is essential in collaborating with the coordinator and fellow tutors to enhance ASC programs, focusing on fostering both academic and social growth for students.
Key Responsibilities
The Academic Tutor is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and tutoring to students, ensuring they receive the academic support necessary for their success. This includes overseeing the operations of Course Assistants, Peer Tutors, and Peer Mentors, providing guidance and support as they work with students in various subjects. The tutor will also lead workshops and activities aimed at enhancing student engagement and retention.
Collaboration is a significant aspect of the role, as the tutor will liaise with faculty from the College of Arts and Sciences to align tutoring efforts with course objectives and faculty expectations. In addition, the tutor will contribute to the Student Retention and Engagement Committee (SREC), helping to implement strategies and activities designed to support student retention and academic success.
The Academic Tutor is expected to dedicate a minimum of four hours a day to tutoring students. The remaining time will be allocated to managing, planning, coordinating, and implementing ASC and SREC programs. This balance ensures that tutors can provide direct support to students while also contributing to broader academic initiatives that enhance the educational experience across the campus.
