The Development Director will play a pivotal role in identifying, researching, and securing grant funding opportunities that align with our organization's mission and strategic objectives. This position demands exceptional writing, communication, and relationship-building skills to craft compelling grant proposals and foster connections with potential funders.
Key Responsibilities:

Identify and Research Funding Opportunities:
- Conduct thorough research to pinpoint potential grant funders and funding avenues that resonate with our goals.
- Stay informed on current trends and funding announcements in relevant fields to enhance our funding strategy.
- Analyze funding criteria and eligibility requirements to evaluate the appropriateness of grant opportunities.

Develop Compelling Grant Proposals:
- Collaborate closely with program staff and stakeholders to gather essential information for grant proposals.
- Write clear, concise, and persuasive proposals that effectively convey our organization’s mission, objectives, and impact.
- Ensure all proposals comply with funders' guidelines and requirements.

Manage Grant Submissions and Reporting:
- Prepare and submit grant proposals by established deadlines.
- Track grant submissions and maintain communication with funders as necessary.
- Oversee grant reporting obligations, ensuring timely submission of progress reports to funders.

Build and Maintain Relationships with Funders:
- Collaborate with the Board to identify and prioritize grant opportunities and proposals.
- Cultivate and nurture strong relationships with current and prospective funders through effective communication and networking strategies.
- Attend grantmaker conferences and workshops to expand our professional network and visibility.
- Represent the organization positively and professionally in all interactions with funders.

Provide Grant Development Training and Support:
- Train and mentor staff on grant writing techniques and proposal development best practices.
- Offer ongoing support and guidance to program staff to enhance their capacity for developing successful grant proposals.
Desired candidate profile
Qualifications:
Must Have:
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in grant development or a related field.
- Proven ability to build and sustain valuable relationships with funders and stakeholders.
- Experience in fundraising with multilateral agencies such as UN and USAID.
- Strong background in International Grants Management.
- Previous experience working with a Board of Directors to drive funding strategies.
- Exceptional writing and communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and persuasive proposals.
- Excellent research and analytical skills to identify and assess funding opportunities effectively.
