SEN Teaching Assistant Primary School Ilford London
An inclusive primary school in Ilford is seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. This fulltime role involves helping create a positive learning environment and providing oneonone support to students ensuring they feel valued and supported throughout their school journey.

This inclusive primary school in Ilford prides itself on its supportive and nurturing approach to education particularly for children with Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The school is looking for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work alongside teachers and SEN professionals providing tailored support to children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. The successful candidate will play a vital role in fostering a calm and positive classroom environment where students can thrive both academically and emotionally.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide oneonone and small group support to children with SEMH needs helping them to engage with classroom activities and improve their social and emotional skills.
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCo to implement tailored behaviour management strategies that promote positive learning behaviours.
  • Support children with emotional regulation techniques helping them to manage challenging behaviour and improve their focus during lessons.
  • Assist with the implementation of individual learning plans ensuring students have the resources and support needed to succeed academically.
  • Build positive relationships with students offering a safe and encouraging space for them to express their emotions and gain confidence in their abilities.
  • Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to teachers and the SEN team on students emotional behavioural and academic development.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working with children who have SEMH needs is beneficial.
  • A good understanding of behaviour management strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with students and staff.
  • Patience empathy and resilience with a commitment to helping children overcome challenges.
  • A clear DBS check.
  • Legal right to work in the UK.
