MAJOR PURPOSE:
This job is for a Materials Engineering lab technician whose everyday assignments and tasks may vary from routine to infrequent. Duties are relatively broad in scope and may require evaluations by the position holder. The holder of this position will perform materials engineering supporting tasks or complex laboratory analytical functions with limited engineering oversight.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Description of the major duties performed in this job.
Completes tasks involving preparation or analysis of material samples/components/processes with minor engineering oversight for moderately complex activities.
Develop recommend and implement analytical or process changes needed to maintain or improve product quality on a tactical or strategic basis.
Work with maintenance and production personnel to troubleshoot laboratory equipment process or analytical problems.
Participate on project teams to leverage knowledge and experience to improve factory performance in safety quality cost and delivery.
Create and maintain process instructions or develop analytical processes to meet production needs.
Create and maintain laboratory procedures and processes.
Maintain Sustain level of 5S in the materials Engineering lab.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Competencies technical skills formal educations and relevant work experience critical for successful individual performance of essential functions.
Technical Skills & Knowledge:
Specialized skills knowledge and abilities needed to perform the essential functions of the job.
Excellent understanding of part prints process instructions and Client/industry standards.
Basic to moderate knowledge of ferrous machining processes and application to materials analysis.
Basic knowledge of production and analytical equipment and maintenance activities needed to produce of verify a quality product.
Solid mechanical aptitude and a strong drive to grow this skill set.
Very good verbal and written communication skills.
Education:
Formal education or training required to perform the essential functions of the job. Includes degrees certifications licenses and/or registrations requirements.
2 year associate technical degree or equivalent work experience.
Relevant Work Experiences:
Type and amount of experience necessary to perform the essential functions of the job. May include specific roles and/or an understanding of a particular function organization industry or product.
Experience in process control and analytical analysis to be interfaced with this position.
Experience in Client manufacturing environment.
Experience with shop floor or laboratory environment.
Participation as a contributing team member on substantial process problem solving teams.
Demonstrated technical leadership and mentoring experience.
Experience with production systems and databases.
Experience with using Microsoft Office Suite and other electronic engineering software tools.
Specific Job Duties:
Perform laboratory tasks as requested and support activities in the materials lab as Materials engineering Work Request are received.
o Work with requestors to ensure proper work is being done and parts are being delivered to lab.
Order and stock lab consumables.
o Track reservation number IM number price order date and delivery date.
o Enter crib reservation in SAP (PDX) transaction.
Collect Parts Perform Audits and Maintain Monthly/Quarterly Audit spreadsheets. .
Track work request system.
Maintain all lab equipment.
Support changeovers and adjustments at S450 crankshaft heat treat.
Maintain coolant levels in all saws.
Getting new consumables approved for use.
