Job Title: Special Education Teacher Location: Zion IL Reports To: Principal and Director of Special Education Employment Type: FullTime Job Overview: The school is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to provide individualized education and support to students with varying needs. The teacher will work closely with general education teachers paraprofessionals and support staff to create a safe inclusive and effective learning environment for students with disabilities. The primary goal is to ensure that students with special needs are given the tools strategies and support they need to succeed academically socially and emotionally. Key Responsibilities: - Develop and implement IEPs: Write manage and update Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for each student ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Adapt instruction: Modify general education curriculum to meet the diverse needs of students with disabilities ensuring access to gradelevel content in a way that is appropriate for each student’s abilities.
- Assess student progress: Conduct assessments to determine the strengths and areas of improvement for each student. Use assessment data to inform instruction and adjust teaching strategies.
- Collaborate with staff and parents: Work closely with general education teachers paraprofessionals related service providers (such as speech therapists and occupational therapists) and parents to create a cohesive educational experience.
- Behavior management: Implement positive behavior intervention strategies (PBIS) to support students’ social and emotional wellbeing and promote a productive learning environment.
- Provide direct instruction: Deliver specialized instruction in both pullout and inclusive classroom settings focusing on academic skills social skills and life skills based on student needs.
- Compliance and documentation: Maintain accurate records ensuring compliance with district state and federal requirements. This includes progress reports data collection and preparation for IEP meetings.
- Professional development: Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.
Qualifications: - Education: Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Certification: Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Special Education Endorsement.
- Experience: Previous experience working with students with special needs particularly in an elementary school setting is preferred.
- Skills: Strong organizational communication and collaboration skills. Ability to differentiate instruction and manage a diverse classroom effectively.
Working Conditions: - Fulltime position typical school hours.
- May involve standing for extended periods lifting and assisting students with physical needs.
- Some afterschool hours may be required for meetings or professional development.
