Job Description

1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant Lewisham

Join a welcoming primary school in Lewisham as a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant. In this role you will work closely with a child with autism helping them access the curriculum and develop essential social skills. Full training and support will be provided.

Position: 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant
Type: Fulltime Permanent
Location: Lewisham London

The staff work collaboratively to create personalised learning plans and ensure that all students particularly those with special educational needs receive the tailored support they require to succeed both academically and socially.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support for a child with autism helping them engage with the curriculum and navigate daily school routines.
  • Assist with developing social skills and fostering positive interactions with peers and staff.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher and SENCO to implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and adapt teaching strategies to meet the childs needs.
  • Monitor the childs progress and provide regular feedback to teachers and parents.
  • Support the childs emotional wellbeing ensuring they feel safe and supported in the school environment.
  • Participate in relevant training sessions to enhance your understanding of autism and SEN strategies.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children with special educational needs particularly autism is desirable but not essential.
  • A patient empathetic and understanding approach to working with children who require additional support.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with teachers parents and support staff.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with SEN and helping them reach their full potential.
  • A DBS check is required.
