Job Description

The Director of Agronomy is entrusted with the maintenance operation and management of the golf course.

Salary Range: $150000 $175000 Annual Salary

Responsibilities:
Responsible for supervising the construction and maintenance of the golf course.
Provides timely and accurate reporting of all financial and nonfinancial information as directed requested or required by the Director of Golf or the General Manager.
Supervising the maintenance and repair of construction and maintenance equipment.
Participating in all longrange planning meetings.
Construction renovation and/or reconstruction of such properties whether performed by
maintenance staff or outside contractors.
Prepares the annual budgets for the maintenance and capital improvement of course properties.
The Director of Agronomy formulates the annual maintenance and capital budgets to implement board policies established in accordance with the longrange plan and defined maintenance standards.
Interviews hires trains directs and supervises a staff of employees for the purpose of
maintaining the property.
Plans all maintenance and project work applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the agreedupon maintenance and longrange goals.
Oversees the scheduling and routing of staff and equipment to accomplish the work. The
Director of Agronomy frequently inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect changes in management programs.
Develops trains coaches disciplines and mentors managers within the department providing feedback direction and leadership so that they may carry out the daily activities of the department all while grooming them for upward mobility within the company.
Stays abreast of current agronomic information.
Ensures proper mixing calibration and application of all chemical/fertilizers used on the course.
Acquires equipment and purchases supplies to maintain the golf course.
Responsible for inventory control and oversees the equipment programs.
Approves all expenditures and exercises cost control measures to keep operating and capital expenses in line with approved budgets.
Keeps accurate and completed records on payroll inventory weather data maintenance
procedures pesticide applications etc.
Communicates regularly with Executive Committee to discuss activities goals plans and
member/customer input.
The Director of Agronomy will assume responsibility for: the golf course; maintenance
equipment; golf cart fleet; clubhouse grounds and landscaping; open spaces wooded areas unused acreage and areas outside the perimeter fence; sod farm and nursery; other properties as specified in writing by the Director of Golf.


Qualifications :

Requires advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles practices and methods and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
Requires a high degree of administrative and executive ability especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
Requires excellent oral and written communication skills.
Requires knowledge of current federal state local laws and regulations affecting the
management of the golf course operations.
This person must have exceptional communicational skills as well as superior guest service abilities.
Must have thorough knowledge of the construction and maintenance of golf course tees
greens and fairways; of the production and maintenance of various types of turf used on golf
course; of the planting cultivating pruning and caring for plants trees and shrubs; of the
characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; of pesticides and pest control methods and materials; of drainage control methods; of the computerized watering and irrigation systems including wells pumps and automatic controls.
Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective
employee and public relations.
Possession of a valid California Drivers License.
California Pesticide Applicators License.
May lift up to 80lbs.
