Position Summary:
The Senior Healthcare Assistant will play a crucial role in providing handson care to clients supporting their daily activities and ensuring their comfort and wellbeing. This role involves assisting with personal care monitoring health conditions and working closely with healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive care plans. The Senior Healthcare Assistant will also mentor and guide junior care staff ensuring adherence to best practices and maintaining high standards of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Client Care: Provide highquality personal care to clients including assistance with bathing dressing grooming and mobility.
- Health Monitoring: Monitor clients vital signs (e.g. temperature pulse respiration) report any changes in condition and escalate concerns to healthcare professionals.
- Medication Support: Assist clients with medication reminders and administration in line with care plans and under supervision where required.
- Companionship: Offer emotional support and companionship to clients promoting their mental wellbeing and overall comfort.
- Mentorship: Supervise and mentor junior healthcare assistants providing guidance on best practices and ensuring care quality.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and detailed records of care provided ensuring that documentation is completed in line with agency policies and procedures.
- Communication: Liaise with healthcare professionals clients and their families to ensure that care plans are followed and adjusted as needed.
- Mobility Assistance: Help clients with movement and exercises ensuring safety during transfers and mobility.
- Infection Control: Follow infection control protocols to ensure a safe and clean environment for both clients and staff.
Qualifications:
- NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent qualification.
- 3 years of experience in a healthcare assistant or similar role preferably in a home healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of personal care practices patient handling and health monitoring techniques.
- Compassionate patient and empathetic demeanor.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to lead and support junior staff.
- Current CPR/First Aid certification is an asset.
- Knowledge of infection control procedures and healthcare regulations.
