Responsibilities
- Plan prepare and deliver creative and engaging art lessons tailored to meet the needs of SEN students ensuring that all learners can access the curriculum and develop their artistic skills.
- Work closely with the SEN department to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) adapting lesson plans and teaching techniques to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Use a range of inclusive teaching strategies including visual aids handson activities and sensory learning tools to create lessons that are accessible and enjoyable for all students.
- Foster an environment of creativity encouraging students to express themselves through art while developing their confidence selfesteem and social skills.
- Provide ongoing assessment and feedback tracking student progress and ensuring that their artistic and personal development is nurtured.
- Collaborate with classroom support staff including teaching assistants and SEN specialists to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting students during lessons.
- Work with parents and carers to provide regular updates on student progress and address any concerns or additional needs that may arise.
- Participate in schoolwide initiatives to promote the importance of the arts and creativity in education contributing to crosscurricular projects and art displays.
- Stay uptodate with the latest SEN teaching strategies and techniques attending relevant training and workshops to enhance professional skills and knowledge.
Experience and Qualifications
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a specialization in Art or a related subject.
- Experience working with special educational needs students preferably in a secondary school setting with a proven ability to differentiate lessons to meet a wide range of needs.
- A passion for inclusive education and the ability to engage and inspire students through art tailoring lessons to suit their individual learning styles and abilities.
- Strong understanding of SEN teaching strategies with experience in using visual aids sensory tools and other assistive technologies to enhance student engagement.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff students parents and external agencies.
- A positive patient and creative approach to teaching with the flexibility to adapt to the varying needs of SEN students.
- A clear DBS check and the legal right to work in the UK.
