Job Description

Summary:

The Rhode Island Welcome Back Center provides orientation counseling and support to Rhode Islands internationally trained health workers and other professionals. The mission of the center is to build a bridge between the pool of internationally trained professionals living in Rhode Island and the need for linguistically and culturally competent services in underserved communities. Under the supervision of the RI Welcome Back Center Director the Job Developer/career case manager is responsible for the provision of educational case management career development and counseling services to participants.

Responsibilities:

A. Total % of Time Approximately 70% (Case Management/Direct Services)

  • Provide information to the public and respond to inquiries about the Centers services.
  • Conduct the initial Center eligibility screening of participants.
  • Conduct an initial assessment of participants to include: gathering information on professional education and professional work experience in country of origin any further education/work experience in the United States summary of efforts/approaches in trying to practice profession current situation reason for migration and an assessment of motivation strengths weaknesses as related to achieving professional goals.
  • Develop a Career Pathway Plan for each participant to include any English language skills needed acculturation to the US health care and other professional employment systems transcripts/validation of credentials needed for licensing and alternative career paths under consideration.
  • Provide case management services to assist participants with schools and financial aid applications research on alternative career programs.
  • Provide brief supportive counseling motivational counseling and problem solving focused on professional transitions and professional adaptation in the United States.
  • Conduct a followup assessment of participants at 3 6 and 12month marks to assess progress
  • on interim steps and goals as well as barriers encountered.
  • Have extensive knowledge of professional career pathways and requirements at each level and relationships established and maintained with key licensing and credentialing persons/entities.
  • Provide group activities to educate and link participants to community programs.
  • Provide other educational/support group activities for participants as needed.
  • Other duties as deemed necessary for achieving the objectives and outcomes of the program.

B. Total % of Time Approximately 30% (Business/Community Relations /Job placement/Data

Maintenance/Meetings)

  • Perform outreach and recruitment to immigrant professionals.
  • Attend weekly team meetings and present Initial Assessments and Plans for participants.
  • Maintain files for all participants in caseload and uphold professional standards of documentation of assessments plans and progress notes.
  • Make presentations about the Welcome Back Center to community organizations employers and other organizations in coordination with the RI Welcome Back Center Director.
  • Maintain data ensuring timely data entry. Develop reports as needed for funders and others.
  • Welcome Back Centers. Offer input on improvements to data system design and collection.
  • Develop new contacts and maintain current relationships with business industry and community

organizations translating those contacts into permanent job opportunities.

  • Explore labor market trends specifically statistics available through the state Department of
  • Labor and Training and review students career interests. Consult with business/industry

representatives to determine needs for additional training and placement opportunities.

  • Analyzes jobs in healthrelated occupations to ascertain requirements for job development.
  • Follows up on job leads provided by Board of Directors administrators and colleagues.
  • Placement of clients into competitive employment. Reviews referrals for job placement with job

development team to develop placement plans and jobs with career advancement opportunities

for referred students which match employer expectations to the students abilities and interests.

  • Assists students with application process including mock interviews and provides feedback and

guidance in the postinterview process.

  • Develops followup plans for students.
  • Participate in grant writing and reporting.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor the RI Welcome Back Center Director.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of health professions community health and public health institutions.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and various applications.
  • Willingness to work a flex schedule which will include some nights and weekends.
  • Ability to work professionally within a multicultural setting including ability to maintain

confidentiality and privacy of persons documents data and communications.

  • Ability to work remotely and onsite as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree or higher in Social Work Counseling Psychology or related field strongly
  • preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of two years experience providing counseling or case management services to immigrant
  • population(s).

Position: (Primarily remote but must be able to be in person on nights that have scheduled classes)

Travel: Candidate will need to travel to onsite for classes as needed
