Job Description

3 months contract with a Local Authority

Job Summary:

Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):

  • To design and deliver courses in the appropriate subject area which engage disadvantaged and vulnerable Islington residents through using effective assessment tools innovative course and lesson planning production of resources and appropriate teaching techniques.
  • To fully complete and submit to deadlines accurate administrative paperwork related to the organisation of teaching including enrolment forms registers completion and achievement data course folders course evaluations and other course and statistical information as required.
  • To work with learners to promote regular attendance punctuality and progression to further learning and employment including following up on absences where appropriate.

Key Duties:

  • To teach your subject specialism on accredited and nonaccredited programmes in neighbourhood learning centres libraries schools children s centres small voluntary sector organisations or various sites in the community as agreed.
  • To incorporate Digital Skills and Employability when designing and delivering courses in your subject area.
  • To engage LBI residents through using embedding and contextualising effective assessment tools innovative course and lesson planning production of resources and appropriate teaching techniques.
  • To support the Team Leaders and Curriculum Managers to develop your subject area(s) to contribute to a curriculum that meets the needs of LBI residents and enables them to progress onto further education/ training or employment.
  • To contribute to course area and curriculum reviews to identify areas for improvement including retention completion and achievement rates.
  • To contribute to quality improvement processes actively and initiatives.
  • To attend professional development as identified through the Observation of Teaching and Learning process and the appraisal process.
  • To undertake other duties commensurate to the grade of the post.
  • To use and assist others in the use of information technology systems to carry out most efficient and effective manner.
  • To achieve agreed service outcomes and outputs and personal appraisal targets as agreed by the line manager.
  • To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings supervision seminars and other events designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
  • The post holder is expected to be committed to the Council s core values of public service quality equality and empowerment and to demonstrate this commitment in the way they carry out their duties.
  • Ensure all the services within the area(s) of responsibility are provided in accordance with the Councils commitment to high quality service provision to users.
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Council s Health and Safety Policy Safeguarding Prevent and relevant Health and Safety legislation.
  • Always carrying out responsibilities/duties within the framework of the Council s for all Policy. (Equal Opportunities Policy).
  • Ensure resources are well managed and effectively deployed to the best possible effects assuring value for money in all activities.
  • Ensure legal regulatory and policy compliance under GDPR Health and Safety and in area of your specialism identifying opportunities and risks and escalating where appropriate.

Skills/Experience:

  • Substantial adult teaching experience in community or FE college settings.
  • Substantial experience of working with hard to reach and vulnerable adult learners in the community and their families
  • A range of experiences teaching the subject area (accredited and/or nonaccredited) to learners in community settings.
  • Proven experience of working in partnership with voluntary and community organisations.
  • Ability to design and deliver effective courses at a range of levels to adults who have various barriers to learning.
  • Ability to accurately assess the abilities and needs of adult learners and incorporate this into course planning lesson planning and delivery.
  • Ability to produce course materials that are appropriately contextualised and respond to the needs of your learners.
  • Ability to work effectively in your subject area with adult learners with language literacy and numeracy needs.
  • Commitment to promoting and enabling learners progression to further learning.
  • This role will require you to obtain an Enhanced satisfactory clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service.
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and peripatetic ally across the borough.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to deliver high quality learning programmes to the requirements of Ofsteds Education Inspection Framework.
  • Excellent communication organisational and time management skills.
  • Commitment to own continuing professional development.

Additional Information:

  • Level 3 teaching qualification such as PTLLS or AET is acceptable when presented with relevant teaching and industry experience.
