Themis Recruit are seeking a candidate with at least 2 years of experience in the maritime and transport sector specifically in advising on transport contracts and resolving related disputes. Candidates with robust Shipping Litigation backgrounds and a strong interest in Sustainability are also encouraged to apply. The role involves advising clients throughout the physical transport chain with an emphasis on maritime (air pollution) regulations environmental compliance decarbonisation ESG and alternative sustainable maritime fuels and technologies.
Our client has deep expertise in maritime law and possess a thorough understanding of the maritime market covering dry shipping admiralty crisis management and transactional matters. Our clients range from shipowners and charterers to P&I Clubs banks international agencies shipyards marine insurance underwriters governments and brokers.
Due to continued success our client is now expanding their leading Sustainable Maritime Legal Transport practice focusing on decarbonisation low carbon/net zero fuels and sustainable (ESG) practices. Their team handles international maritime environmental compliance and regulatory issues including MARPOL (air pollution energy efficiency and low carbon fuels) sustainability emissions trading and renewable energy. Requirements
Qualified lawyer with a minimum of 2 years PQE currently at midlevel Associate to Senior Associate.
Strong experience in Shipping Disputes; specific Maritime Legal Transport experience is a plus.
Familiarity with physical transport contracts (charterparties bills of lading contracts of affreightment sale contracts ship management agreements) and experience handling disputes in the English High Court and arbitration.
Qualified in England and Wales.
Desirable knowledge of global (MARPOL) and regional regulations (e.g. EU Fit for 55) affecting the maritime sector including Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) EEXI and EU ETS.
Experience with fuel/bunker disputes is a plus.
Excellent drafting skills.
Motivated and enthusiastic thriving in a fastpaced environment.
Strong client engagement and business development skills with a willingness to contribute to practice and business development activities including writing articles and briefings for HFW publications related to Sustainable Maritime Legal Transport.
International travel may be required.
