Job Description

Job Title: Au pair for a 11yearold neurodivergent boy in the Newlands area.

We are looking for someone who shares a special passion and interest in working with neurodivergent children and who can engage in playful lighthearted fun. This person would be assisting as an au pair to a very bright caring and friendly 11yearold neurodivergent boy who enjoys a range of special interests and passions including music gokarting Formula One Minecraft mountain biking Lego and playing soccer.

Main Purpose of the job:

To be a helping hand for their unique and specific support needs giving them the necessary guidance and support to thrive. A special interest and passion in neurodiversity and being a secure longterm source of support are of the utmost importance.

The candidate will receive training from an occupational therapist.

Job Objectives:

Becoming a core member of the multidisciplinary team to support his individual needs if and when needed.
Providing companionship and emotional support for him at home.
Support and scaffolding for his regulation needs (lessening any uncertainty and anxiety).
To carry out duties such as school pickups and drop offs outings and appointments and preparing meals and snacks.
Supporting the understanding of his individual difference sensory profile and executive functioning (i.e assisting with creating a routine with the use of visual aids).
Planning fun creative activities to do at home together.


Requirements

General Requirements:

A valid driver s license and reliable car Essential.

Fluent in English Essential.

Availability to commit to at least 1 year Essential.

JobRelated work experience:

Previous experience in an au pairing role Essential.

Previous experience working with young children Essential.

JobRelated Knowledge:

Familiarity and knowledge of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) Desirable.

Familiarity and knowledge of attentiondeficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) Desirable.

Familiarity and knowledge of developmental coordination disorder (DCD/Dyspraxia) Desirable.

  • Familiarity with a low arousal childled neuroaffirming approach Essential.

JobRelated Skills:

Able to assist with planning and implementing fun activities according to his interests.

Ability to minimise stress and anxiety for him by utilising a low arousal approach Essential.

Strong verbal communication skills with him and parents Essential.

Organisational skills i.e. ability to implement structure strong time management imperative Essential.

Social play and life skills Essential.

Relationship building skills Essential.

Working hours:

Monday to Thursday: 13:0016:00

Salary:

R5760 (R120/hour)

Additional babysitting and flexibility to be available over some weekends when and if needed.

Starting date:

January 2024
