Job Description

Roles and responsibilities

Design Review and Approval
As a Water Utility System Engineer, one of the primary responsibilities is to conduct comprehensive reviews and approvals of water utility system designs. This entails ensuring that all designs align with project specifications, comply with local water management regulations, and adhere to sustainability practices. The role requires providing expert feedback to enhance the robustness and efficiency of designs, ensuring they meet all required standards. This meticulous review process is vital to prevent issues during implementation and to guarantee the long-term functionality of the systems.

Site Supervision and Project Management
Supervision of the installation and testing of water utility systems, including pipelines, pumping stations, and treatment facilities, is another critical aspect of the role. This includes managing all water utility-related activities during the construction phase to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet stringent quality standards. Effective project management involves overseeing construction teams, scheduling tasks, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations, ultimately facilitating a smooth workflow and timely project delivery.

Coordination with Other Disciplines
Collaboration is essential in this position. The Water Utility System Engineer works closely with civil, mechanical, and electrical engineers to ensure the seamless integration of water utility systems into broader infrastructure projects. This multidisciplinary coordination helps to identify potential conflicts early and fosters a cooperative environment where all team members can contribute their expertise to achieve project goals.

Desired candidate profile

Quality Control and Compliance
Implementing rigorous quality control measures is paramount in ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and durability of water utility systems. The engineer is responsible for ensuring that all installations not only meet but ideally exceed local standards and regulations, particularly regarding water quality and environmental impact. This involves regular inspections, testing, and adherence to established quality benchmarks throughout the project lifecycle.

Technical Issue Resolution
Throughout construction, various technical issues may arise related to water utility systems. The engineer must address and resolve these challenges efficiently, coordinating with design teams and contractors to develop effective solutions. This proactive approach minimizes delays and maintains project momentum while ensuring compliance with design specifications.

Client Liaison and Stakeholder Management
Serving as the primary point of contact for all water utility-related matters, the engineer must maintain clear communication with clients. This includes addressing queries, providing updates, and ensuring that client requirements are fully met. Building strong relationships with stakeholders fosters trust and enhances collaboration throughout the project.

Documentation and Reporting
Finally, meticulous documentation is critical. The engineer is responsible for maintaining detailed records of all water utility-related activities, including progress reports, QA/QC documentation, and compliance certifications. Ensuring that all necessary documentation is complete and organized is crucial for project closeout and handover, facilitating a smooth transition to the client. Through diligent record-keeping and reporting, the engineer plays a vital role in the project’s overall success and accountability.
