Roles and responsibilities
1. Design and Development
- Piping Design: Create and develop piping layouts and specifications using software like AutoCAD, PDMS, or CAESAR II.
- Material Selection: Choose appropriate materials for piping systems based on fluid characteristics, temperature, and pressure.
2. Analysis and Calculations
- Stress Analysis: Conduct stress analysis to ensure piping systems can withstand operational pressures and thermal expansion.
- Hydraulic Calculations: Perform calculations to determine flow rates, pressure drops, and pump requirements.
3. Project Management
- Planning: Develop project schedules and budgets for piping projects.
- Coordination: Collaborate with other engineering disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil) to ensure project integration.
4. Compliance and Standards
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure designs meet industry standards and local regulations (e.g., ASME, ANSI, ISO).
- Quality Assurance: Implement quality control measures throughout the design and construction phases.
5. Construction and Installation
- Site Inspections: Conduct site visits to oversee installation, ensuring adherence to design specifications and safety standards.
- Troubleshooting: Address any issues that arise during construction and propose solutions.
6. Maintenance and Upgrades
- System Evaluation: Assess existing piping systems for efficiency and safety, recommending upgrades or replacements as necessary.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of piping designs, changes, and maintenance activities.
7. Safety Management
- Risk Assessment: Identify potential hazards associated with piping systems and implement mitigation strategies.
- Training: Provide training for staff on safe handling and maintenance of piping systems.
8. Communication
- Reporting: Prepare reports and documentation for stakeholders, summarizing project progress and technical details.
- Collaboration: Liaise with clients, contractors, and suppliers to ensure project requirements are met.
