Job Overview:
The Dairy Farm Robotics Technician is responsible for the installation maintenance troubleshooting and repair of automated robotic systems used in dairy farming operations. This includes robotic milking systems feeding systems and other farm automation equipment. The ideal candidate has a strong background in robotics mechanical and electrical systems and is dedicated to improving farm efficiency through advanced technology solutions. The role also involves educating farmers and farm workers on the proper use and maintenance of robotic systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Installation of Robotic Systems:
- Install and configure robotic milking systems automated feeding systems and other farm automation equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
- Set up sensors control systems and network connections to ensure seamless integration of robotic equipment.
- Test installed systems to ensure they are functioning properly and calibrated to meet farmspecific needs.
System Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform preventative maintenance on robotic milking systems automatic feed dispensers and other dairy farm automation equipment to ensure peak operational efficiency.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical electrical and softwarerelated issues in robotic systems utilizing diagnostic tools and software.
- Repair or replace faulty components such as motors sensors control panels and other automated parts in a timely manner to minimize downtime.
Technical Support:
- Provide onsite and remote technical support to dairy farm operators to troubleshoot issues related to robotics and automated systems.
- Educate farmers and farm staff on the operation maintenance and troubleshooting of robotic systems to reduce downtime and increase productivity.
- Work closely with manufacturers and thirdparty service providers to resolve complex technical problems.
System Optimization:
- Analyze data from robotic systems to identify areas for operational improvement and offer solutions to enhance farm productivity.
- Adjust and recalibrate robotic systems to ensure optimal performance particularly in response to changes in herd size farm conditions or other variables.
- Stay updated on new technology developments and provide recommendations for equipment upgrades and process improvements.
Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure that all robotic systems are installed and maintained according to safety regulations and manufacturer guidelines.
- Adhere to dairy farm safety protocols and ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when working with hazardous equipment.
- Comply with environmental and agricultural regulations related to automation equipment on farms.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Experience:
- Experience in robotics mechatronics or a related field preferably in an agricultural or dairy farm setting.
- Familiarity with major dairy farm robotics brands such as DeLaval Lely GEA or BouMatic is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of robotic systems including mechanics electrical circuits software and control systems.
- Proficiency with troubleshooting tools and diagnostic software used in robotics.
- Experience with automation software programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and IoT (Internet of Things) devices is a plus.
- Problem Solving:
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills to quickly diagnose and resolve mechanical and softwarerelated issues.
- Ability to develop creative solutions for technical challenges that arise in a fastpaced dairy farm environment.
- Communication:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to explain technical issues and solutions to nontechnical farm staff.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with farmers farm staff equipment manufacturers and thirdparty service providers.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in a farm environment including exposure to livestock machinery and varying weather conditions.
- Capable of performing physically demanding tasks such as lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs) working in confined spaces and climbing ladders.
- Willingness to work flexible hours including occasional evenings weekends or oncall shifts to respond to urgent repair needs.
Education & Certifications:
- Associate degree or technical diploma in robotics mechatronics electrical engineering or a related field is preferred.
- Certification or training from dairy automation manufacturers (e.g. Lely DeLaval) is a strong advantage.
- Experience with agricultural equipment and technology is beneficial.
- Valid driver s license is required.
