Job Description: Nursing Director Surgical Services
Overview
The Nursing Director of Surgical Services is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing the nursing operations within the surgical services department. This position ensures the delivery of highquality patient care operational efficiency and adherence to healthcare regulations and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the surgical services department including preoperative intraoperative and postoperative care.
- Develop implement and evaluate clinical protocols and policies to ensure compliance with best practices and regulatory standards.
- Oversee budgeting financial management and resource allocation for surgical services.
- Collaborate with surgical staff anesthesiologists and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided implementing improvements as necessary.
- Provide leadership mentorship and professional development opportunities for nursing staff.
- Ensure effective communication within the surgical team and with patients and their families.
- Participate in recruitment selection and performance evaluation of nursing staff.
- Stay updated with advancements in surgical practices and technology to enhance patient care.
Essential Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) is required; Master's degree in Nursing Healthcare Administration or a related field is preferred.
- Certification in nursing administration or a related specialty is desirable.
- Strong knowledge of surgical procedures and nursing standards.
Desired Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive nursing experience in surgical services with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- Proven track record in managing surgical operations and improving patient care outcomes.
- Experience in budget management and strategic planning within a healthcare environment.
