Preamble: All Capitol Debate Staff regardless of title and/or experience are here to: serve the best interests of the student make it an amazing summer for all participants show up every day as their best self and be present to take on any and all responsibilities that create a successful camp! All Capitol Debate staff are considered Camp Counselors first and foremost.

Job Overview Seeking Summer Public Speaking and Debate Camp Senior Instructor/ for Summer 2025 Camps for following Locations:

Yale UCLA UNC Villanova University American University Lawrenceville School Rider University Hun School of Princeton Drew University University of Washington Babson College University of San Diego.

Capitol Debate Summer Camps is seeking active Public Speaking and Debate Coaches for our summer camps. We host camps in 15 cities throughout the country and run different 2 week sessions from June 15 to August 7 2025. Great travel opportunity! Prospect must be able to work at least 6 weeks this summer at up to 3 different campuses and prospect must be able to live on campus. Travel to different states and cities is required.

Job Description:

Public Speaking and Debate Coach is responsible for the overall success of curriculum delivery in the classroom student learning and motivation. Report and work directly with the Camp Director to ensure a smooth camp experience. As an Instructor your job is to empower and support each student to reach greatness. Responsibilities include:
  • Guide and support the curriculum and lecture planning
  • Familiarize yourself with the Summer Debate Topic
  • You are responsible for helping students research write their speeches and/or presentations and provide feedback
  • You are responsible for assisting in judging the student competitions and helping facilitate the student showcase
  • Run classes
  • Deliver lectures
  • Support other Instructors and Camp Counselors
  • Judge practice debates student presentations and Camp Competitions
  • You will be required to extend your hours leading up to the competition(s) mentioned above as we approach the camp competition
  • Attend all staff meetings during the camp
  • Assist with first and lastday camp ceremonies and activities
  • Arrive one (1) day prior to the official start of camp Day 0
  • Assist with administrative or other matters during camp as requested by Camp Director
  • Participate in approximately 10 hours of precamp curriculum and general training lesson and camp planning and collaboration meetings with Capitol Debate Headquarters Camp Directors and Instructors for each camp session
  • Participate in online training when needed




Requirements

Requirements & Experience

  • ABSOLUTE MUST: Coached Competitive Public Speaking and Debate in one or more of the following competitive activities Speech and Debate team Forensics Mock Trial Team Model United Nations Team or similar.
  • ABSOLUTE MUST: Minimum 2 Years of Classroom Experience in 6 to 12th grade School or College Level.
  • Bachelors Degree Required
  • Masters Degree Preferred
  • The applicant must be fully vaccinated.
  • Experience Working in youthbased programs preferred
  • Staff may be required to walk long distances while supervising children in between campuses locations under summer weather conditions.

Requirements & Experience Counselors/junior instructors are often current college students or recent high school graduates with a background in public speaking and debate (including activities like DECA, Model UN, and Mock Trials). Experience working in youth-based programs is a plus. Required attendance at training sessions and planning meetings leading up to our summer program, including an all-staff orientation and training on Day 0. Returning Counselors are eligible for increased responsibilities and compensation. Staff may need to walk long distances under summer conditions and share dorm rooms with fellow counselors of the same gender. High school graduate or equivalent (Preferred) Fully vaccinated Experience in oral advocacy activities such as Speech and Debate, Mock Trial, Model United Nations, or similar (Required) Experience working at a summer camp: 1 year (Preferred) Competitive Public speaking: 2 years (Required) Compensation is set and will be discussed during interview
