Job Description
Position: Miner
Reports to: Shift Boss
Job Overview:
The Miner is responsible for the safe and efficient blasting and extraction of minerals in a trackless mine. The role involves preparing and charging blast holes ensuring compliance with mining regulations and collaborating with the team to achieve production targets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Blasting Operations:
- Conduct preblasting inspections including verifying the condition of the blast area.
- Prepare and charge blast holes according to the mines design specifications and safety procedures.
- Initiate blasts in line with the schedule ensuring minimal disruption to the environment and surrounding operations.
- Trackless Mining Operations:
- Operate and maintain trackless mobile machinery (e.g. loaders dump trucks etc.) as required for mining operations.
- Conduct routine safety checks on equipment and report any issues or malfunctions.
- Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to safety regulations set out by the Mine Health and Safety Act including the proper handling of explosives and equipment.
- Follow protocols for collision avoidance systems on trackless machines to minimize accidents involving machinery and personnel.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with the mining team engineers and supervisors to ensure the safe of daily operations.
- Provide support in training and mentoring junior staff on blasting and equipment operation.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Blasting Ticket: Valid Blasting Certificate for Scheduled Mines in South Africa.
- Experience: Minimum of 35 years of experience in trackless underground mining.
- Technical Skills:
- Knowledge of operating trackless mobile machinery in underground environments.
- Proficient in blast hole preparation explosive handling and initiation.
- Safety Compliance:
- Thorough understanding of mine safety protocols especially regarding collision avoidance and proximity detection systems.
- Additional Skills:
- Strong communication and problemsolving abilities.
- Ability to work in highpressure environments and meet production deadlines.
