Our client is a leading South Korean performance and outdoor apparel footwear bags and accessories manufacturer. As an employer of choice they own and operate production facilities in Bangladesh and several other locations throughout the developing world. Playing an important role in the socioeconomic development of the countries they work they employ many thousands of people.
The company is seeking an Operations Manager to lead their production facility in Karnaphuli Export Processing Zone (KEPZ) in the second largest city in Bangladesh.
Reporting to the President of the Materials Division based in Seoul Korea the role has the main Operations and HR functions reporting to it.
The textiles unit is well established with about 1000 employees in three buildings covering:
- weaving
- dyeing and finishing (wovens polyester coatings)
- Socks
- Accessories (webbing tape etc.)
- Water treatment
Responsibilities
The role requires a strong manager who can motivate and develop the team and has the diplomacy to deal with a multicultural workforce the board and customers.
Improve quality and efficiency
- Establish best practice fabric handling that maintains optimal product consistency
- Review production flow and advise on improvements
- Review processes and machinery used with supporting documentation including specifications and manuals
- Review chemicals dyes and raw materials used
Delivery performance
- Oversee production to ensure ontime delivery
- Work with the planning team to notify them of any changes to delivery schedules
Oversee new developments
- Work closely with the materials team in South Korea for new fabric developments
Human Resources and payroll processing
- Responsible for all aspects and activities related to human resources and payroll processing.
- Review job roles and create job descriptions and KPIs/targets in conjunction with the line managers
- Plan for further upskilling or changes to roles
- Evaluate performance and make employee strategy recommendations
- Ensure all teams complete their tasks on schedule.
Maintenance
- In conjunction with Production Managers oversee the maintenance of the manufacturing units
Communication
- Improve internal and external communication to all parties
- Be the face of the business for customer visits
Requirements
Selection Criteria
- At least five years of handson operations management experience within a textile plant which ideally includes polyester fabric weaving dyeing and finishing.
- Management experience covering production quality and maintenance staff
- Comfortable working with international customers
- Excellent interpersonal communication and organising skills to coordinate project activities
- Ability to communicate with others effectively
- Ability to manage projects respond timely to inquiries and present written and oral briefings
- Good decisionmaking skills and response to highpressure situations
