There is considerable flexibility to accommodate the special interests and advanced training plan of the trainee for a six (6) month term in community/developmental paediatrics to leadership opportunities around respiratory, emergency, neonatal, critical care and retrieval, cardiology, neurology, especially those on a dual qualification or general-with-interest pathway and including research and nurturing of professional qualities required for completion of paediatric fellowship.
Paediatric unit takes around 5000 admissions/year with regional referral service (including 8 bed Special Care Nursery with neonates >32weeks including CPAP). Serviced by 7 paediatricians, 8 registrars, 6 junior staff and visiting medical and surgical specialists Outreach. We champion Telehealth to assist families and reduce travel.
The Hospital: This is a level 2 hospital (354) beds with 24-hour cardiac intervention, trauma service, medical specialities including Respiratory, Nephrology, Neurology, Endocrine, Rheumatology, Oncology on site with visiting specialists in other disciplines.
To reflect the growing demand for health care in the region, the Hospital has been redeveloped at a cost of $408 million. The redeveloped hospital is a digital hospital, equipped with leading edge technology to assist staff to provide the highest level of care and comfort to patients. It is the first regional hospital in Queensland to have the complete integrated electronic medical record.
