Overview
The position of Anesthesia Technician is crucial in the healthcare team as it involves providing support and assistance in the administration of anesthesia and monitoring of patients during surgical procedures. Anesthesia Technicians play a vital role in ensuring the safety and efficacy of anesthesia care as well as in maintaining and managing anesthesia equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain anesthesia equipment and supplies
- Assist in the induction maintenance and emergence phases of anesthesia
- Monitor and respond to changes in patient vital signs during anesthesia
- Assist anesthesiologists in special procedures (e.g. arterial line placements)
- Perform routine maintenance and quality control on anesthesia equipment
- Ensure the cleanliness and sterility of anesthesia equipment
- Provide support during emergency and resuscitation situations
- Transport and position patients for anesthesia procedures
- Assist with the documentation and recordkeeping related to anesthesia care
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team
Required Qualifications
- Completion of an accredited Anesthesia Technician program
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Knowledge of medical terminology and pharmacology
- Experience in operating anesthesia equipment
- Familiarity with emergency response protocols and procedures
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fastpaced highpressure environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding and adherence to infection control and sterilization techniques
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and assist with patient positioning
