Job Description

The ideal candidate has an Active Top Secret Security Clearance a Bachelor s degree in computer science engineering systems or other related disciplines and 10 of handson experience in Network Design Network Engineering Network Operational Support and cloud engineering experience in Medium to Large enterprise network environments.

Position Description: The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Information and Technology (OIT) Enterprise Networks and Technology Support Directorate (ENTSD) and Network Architecture and Engineering (NAE) Division provide management services and oversight of the CBP infrastructure to protect defend and restore the confidentiality integrity and availability of CBP missionessential data communications and applications.

NAE ensures a standardized highperformance and secure enterprise network architecture for the CBP enterprise that seamlessly integrates existing and emerging technologies. NAE which comprises the Network Architecture Branch (NAB) and Network Engineering Branch (NEB) supports the CBP mission by delivering network architecture and network engineering services to OIT Program Directorate and Division customers and partners.

Some key CBP technology partners include but are not limited to Cisco Juniper Brocade F5 Infoblox NetScout Riverbed Palo Alto CA Technologies Amazon Web Services (AWS) Microsoft and Dell. CBP is actively modernizing its IT infrastructure and engaging in various initiatives to evaluate and implement emerging technologies migrate to the cloud support mobile platforms and continually improve its network services performance security and availability. The CBP LAN/MAN/WAN network comprises over 1200 field sites (CONUS and OCONUS) and three enterprise data centers with onprem and cloud presence.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Working with an enterprise network architecture and engineering team supporting our federal customer the Professional Monitoring Tools Engineer provides network engineering support and guidance in projects and application architecture.
  • The Professional Monitoring Tools Engineer is responsible for engineering designing testing and implementing customerselected network monitoring tools and infrastructure.
  • The engineer leverages the current network environment to facilitate monitoring and situational awareness of the networks health.
  • Responsible for supporting the development of the Technical Requirements Document and a Detailed Design Document (DDD) for the network architecture consistent with the associated Functional Requirements Document and DDD before transitioning to Operations.
  • Responsibility includes supporting all updates to all documents when the network design and technologies change collaborating with all stakeholders to test all related systems and application migration processes and verifying that the systems meet requirements and can host applications with no degradation to performance or security.
  • This engineer is responsible for preparing test reports and Implementation Plans for each change impacting the network environment.

Position Duties:

  • Experience integrating various monitoring tools with existing infrastructure.
  • Lead efforts in research and testing of new tools selected by the client.
  • Write reports and documentation on test results and Proof of Concept outcomes.
  • Provides internal consulting technical guidance information and support to application developers computer operations company management and departmental clients.
  • Assists in internal training programs.
  • Must work with minimal supervision and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

At least ten years of handson experience in Network Design Network Engineering Network Operational Support and cloud engineering experience in Medium to Large enterprise network environments: 10 years of experience

HPNA 10 years of experience

Forward Networks 10 years of experience

Language skills (must have):

English Native or bilingual proficiency


Experience required:

**Position Knowledge Skills and Experience:** At least ten years of handson experience in Network Design Network Engineering Network Operational Support and cloud engineering experience in Medium to Large enterprise network environments: NetScout nGeniusPulse HPNA Forward Networks Akamai Stealthwatch SteelCentral Experience with Cloud Identity and Access Management Experience deploying and managing virtual servers in the Cloud Experience with Cloudbased monitoring solutions **Position Requirements:** **Min Education:** Bachelor s degree in computer science engineering systems or other related disciplines. **Min Years of Experience:** 10 years. **Education Substitution:** 14 years. **Desired Certifications:** ITIL v3 AWS: Networking and Security Specialty Solutions Architect Associate or professional. **Eligibility/clearance:** Must be a U.S. citizen. **Physical Demands:** The job requires bending crawling sitting and lifting 50 lbs. at most.


Additional job information:

**Clearance:** Must have an Active TS with an adjudication within the last 15 Months. DHS Badge/Clearance required. CBP Badge/Access preferred.
