Job Description

The Bonifazi Group at the Faculty of Chemistry of the University of Vienna is looking for a dedicated and motivated Lab Technician to join our team. The position is initially for 6 months. A permanent fulltime employment in mutual agreement is aspired.

Tasks

Job description: The Bonifazi Lab is focused on the synthesis analysis and purification of organic molecular and macromolecular organic compounds. Activities are implemented utilizing stateoftheart synthetic and analytical instrumentation. The Lab Technician will be responsible for the running and maintenance of the GPC and HPLC machines for the purification of these compounds and support in their synthesis and characterization.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs qualitative and preparative HPLC and GPC purifications.
  • Performs characterization of the synthesized compounds for chemical authenticity purity and yield calculation. Characterization is performed by one or several of the following analytical techniques: Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Infrared (IR) and UVVis Spectroscopy.
  • Maintains records of all synthetic products manufactured inhouse.
  • Monitor and manage laboratory supplies and inventory.
  • Coordinates the purchase of supplies necessary to maintain operations and coordinates the disposal of chemical wastes adhering to all safety guidelines.
  • Ensures compliance with laboratory safety protocols and maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  • Participates in the organic synthesis of the compounds if needed.
  • Ability to report the results of work in verbal and written form.

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Scientific education (Msc Bsc or equal) in organic chemistry analytical chemistry or related field.
  • Experience in working with HPLC and GPC purification systems. Experience with organic synthesis would be an advantage.
  • Fluent German skills as well as good English skills.
  • Accurate structured and independent working style with excellent documentation practice.
  • HandsOn enjoyment of practical and independent work.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Proactive behavior.
  • Ability to work in an international team environment.
  • MSOffice skills.
  • Willingness to learn and improve.

Benefits

Duration of employment: 6 months.

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week. Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: 54 VwGr. IIIa with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.
