Job Description
Responsibilities
- Follow ECMO policies and procedures in patient care.
- Operate and maintain ECMO equipment ensuring optimal functionality.
- Monitor patients status and the ECMO circuit providing expert care for those with complex conditions.
- Identify and correct problems associated with ECMO procedures.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
- Educate and train healthcare professionals on ECMO therapy.
- Assess and monitor patient response to ECMO therapy making necessary adjustments for optimal outcomes.
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families providing support and education regarding ECMO therapy.
- Document all care provided maintaining accurate and complete patient records.
- Adhere to hospital policies procedures and protocols related to ECMO therapy and critical care nursing.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and outcomes.
- Stay current on advancements in ECMO technology and techniques integrating new knowledge into practice.
Qualifications
- Graduate of a CoARC approved respiratory care program AND hold a Bachelors degree in a related discipline.
- Minimum of one year ICU experience as a Respiratory Therapist.
- Current Minnesota Respiratory Therapist (LRT) license.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or equivalent as required by the site.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification must be obtained prior to completion of orientation where applicable.
- Graduate of a baccalaureate Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.
- Minimum of one year ICU experience as a Registered Nurse.
- Current RN license by applicable state requirements.
- Current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- PALS certification must be obtained prior to completion of orientation.
- BLS ACLS and PALS certifications accepted from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- All ECMO Specialists are expected to have an additional PRN position for at least the first year in our ICU (RN) or Respiratory Department (RT).
