Job Description

Our client an international mining company is seeking an experienced Head of Mining to lead their operations with a deep understanding of modern mining management practices and global industry trends. This role encompasses full authority over expenditure training and discipline ensuring all activities align with budgetary constraints. You will play a crucial role in shaping annual budgetary provisions and directly impact the companys strategic goals. The scope of your work will focus on ensuring effective consistent and efficient management of business operations meeting yearly objectives related to ore tonnage grades exploration and development. Your leadership will be vital in achieving the Strategic Business Units (SBU) business plan and driving operational success.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and health of employees and equipment in order to comply with both legal requirements and environmental management plan.
  • To direct the organizations ongoing operations and activities towards the accomplishment of the organizations objectives.
  • Defines and recommends objectives: Develops specific short and longrange plans and programs together with supporting requests.
  • Implements and monitors quality control standards and procedures consistent with the organizations objectives.
  • Manage and control the operations of the underground mines and open pits technical explorations and HSE in order to achieve or exceed the SBU business plan.
  • Motivate staff to maintain high and acceptable standards of supervision and discipline to ensure effective management of Safety Occupational health environmental and quality adherence to the ISO9001:2015 quality standards mining and dumps regulations.
  • To guide cost management across the three operating units to ensure cost control measures are adhered to in order to operate within the business plan.
  • Monitor and ensure that Business plan enablers are timely implemented in order to achieve business plan set targets.
  • To oversee the training and development of all staff in the units so as to fulfill the succession plan.
  • Recommends budget requirements and takes action to guarantee effective performance within approved budgets.
  • Participates in senior management meetings involving policy with emphasis on those decisions that affect the operations.
  • Maintain networks of external contacts that enable the Company to benchmark its practices against competition and migrate best practice from them where appropriate.
  • Engages in the typical responsibilities of a manager requiring planning evaluating organizing integrating and controlling.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Degree in any Mining qualification or equivalent plus at least 20 years working experience in mechanized controlled mining and has an indepth knowledge and understanding of the mining business activities.
  • Strong management and leadership skills with a high degree of accountability
  • Have experience of Benchmarking practices both safety and productivity in mining.
  • Develop a lean culture and robust succession planning.
  • Have full responsibility for the direction management and development of the existing and all operations projects with a proven track record in improving all mining processes
  • Direct and manage the full operations and the ongoing projects of the mine operations
  • Have proven experience in the development and management of mine operations including bringing new operations into full production
  • Ensure safe mine operations and establish and maintain effective safety programs to minimize accidents and industrial hygiene exposure.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental health and safety regulations and associated permits.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and consultative skills with the ability to interact with and influence senior people in the company private and public sector
  • Highly analytic and strategic with the ability to appreciate the big picture and context and effectively implement the same in practical terms.
  • Strong financial acumen.
  • Possesses a strong sense of personal integrity and upholds ethical practices.
