Job Description
Job Title: Asbestos Handler

General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:
Under direct supervision the Asbestos Handler will perform asbestos abatement work. This includes inspection removal encapsulation or enclosure of asbestos contained in the pipe boiler breeching and duct insulation as well as sprayon insulation and plaster. The role involves ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Examples of Typical Tasks:
- Perform all tasks associated with asbestos abatement including:
- Precleaning and setting up decontamination chambers
- Plasticizing and proper containment of asbestos or asbestosladen materials
- Postcleaning and restoration of job sites to their original state adhering to Local Law 76/85 and other applicable legislation.
- In the supervisors temporary absence fulfil the supervisors duties.
- Load and unload asbestos abatement supplies from transport vehicles.
- Operate motor vehicles as needed in the performance of assigned duties.
Qualification Requirements:
- Valid Certified Asbestos Handler or Supervisor Certificate issued by:
- The New York State Department of Labor (under New York State Industrial Code Rule 56)
- The New York City Department of Environmental Protection (under Local Law 76/85)
- Educational and Experience Requirements:
- A fouryear high school diploma or equivalent plus two years of satisfactory fulltime experience in asbestos abatement; or
- A satisfactory combination of education and experience equivalent to the above with additional experience substituting for educational requirements.
- A valid Motor Vehicle Driver License in the State of New York.
Salary: $28 $30.00 per hour
