Overview:
The Academic Counsellor plays a crucial role in providing guidance and support to students helping them achieve their academic and personal goals. They are responsible for addressing students academic emotional and social needs and providing resources to enhance their educational experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct individual counseling sessions to assist students in academic and personal development.
- Provide support and guidance to students experiencing academic and personal challenges.
- Assist in the development and implementation of academic success plans for students.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to identify and address student needs.
- Conduct workshops and group sessions on study skills time management and other related topics.
- Administer and interpret assessment tools to identify students strengths and challenges.
- Keep detailed and accurate records of student interactions and progress.
- Stay updated on academic and careerrelated resources and opportunities.
- Participate in student orientation and other campuswide events.
- Contribute to the development of counseling programs and initiatives.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Counseling Psychology Education or related field.
- Proven experience in academic counseling or related roles.
- Strong understanding of student development theories and academic advising principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Familiarity with career assessment tools and resources.
- Empathetic and patient approach in working with students.
- Ability to work collaboratively with diverse student populations.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Proficiency in using relevant educational and counseling software.
