Overview
The Assistant Professor of Statistics plays a crucial role in the academic institution contributing to the advancement of statistical knowledge and the development of students analytical skills. This position involves teaching research and service responsibilities fostering a dynamic learning environment and shaping the next generation of statisticians.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate level courses in statistics ensuring effective learning outcomes
- Conduct research in statistical methodology presenting findings at conferences and publishing in scholarly journals
- Mentor and advise students guiding their research projects and fostering their academic and professional growth
- Collaborate with faculty and contribute to departmental initiatives such as curriculum development and assessment
- Use innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance the understanding of statistical concepts
- Engage in service activities such as committee participation outreach and professional organization involvement
- Supervise student internships theses and dissertations providing valuable guidance and support
- Participate in interdisciplinary research projects and contribute statistical expertise to diverse academic endeavors
- Stay current with advancements in statistical techniques applying relevant developments to teaching and research
- Contribute to the accreditation process by providing evidence of continuous improvement and quality education
- Participate in the recruitment and retention of students through open house events and other activities
- Participate in departmental meetings contributing to curriculum planning assessment and student success initiatives
- Establish and maintain relationships with industry partners fostering collaborative opportunities for students and faculty
- Contribute to the academic community through campus representation and involvement in scholarly activities
- Maintain a commitment to inclusivity and diversity in all aspects of teaching research and service
Required Qualifications
- M.Sc. in Statistics or a related field
- Demonstrated expertise in statistical theory methodology and application
- Experience in teaching collegelevel statistics courses preferably with evidence of effective pedagogy
- Proven record of scholarly research and publications in reputable journals
- Ability to mentor and advise students in research projects and academic pursuits
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment
- Proficiency in statistical software and technologies for data analysis and visualization
- Commitment to professional development and engagement in scholarly activities
- Ability to contribute to departmental and institutional service initiatives
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive teaching and support for diverse student populations
- Ability to participate in interdisciplinary collaborations and contribute statistical expertise to diverse academic endeavors
