Adventure Sports Coach

34 months contract with an East London based Local Authority.

Job Summary:

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated outdoor activity instructor/sports coach who can join our team at the Urban Adventure Base in Mile End Park to support with the delivery of highquality outdoor activity and sport sessions and programmes to the local community as part of the Council s Young Tower Hamlets offer.

The team use sport and adventure learning as a vehicle for personal and social development. Activities on offer include canoeing and kayaking on very sheltered water cycling indoor rock climbing skating artificial caving and BMX.

The post will also include delivery of the boroughs Duke of Edinburghs Award (DofE) programme working in schools and youth centres to help young people start and complete a DofE Bronze Silver or Gold Award.

Work on the DofE will include leading and support for with DofE Expeditions mostly in lowland countryside areas which will include camping/sleeping in tents.

Key Duties/Accountabilities:

To deliver the aims and objectives of the Young Tower Hamlets sports offer.

To deliver high quality outdoor activity and sport sessions and programmes to the local community via daytime sessions with Schools local community groups and youth groups community events and openaccess youth sessions. Activities on offer include canoeing kayaking indoor rock climbing mountain biking inclusive cycling BMX artificial caving and skating.

To support with the full delivery and quality assurance of national accredited programmes such as the Duke of Edinburgh s Award and Sports Leaders Awards British Canoeing Paddle Power Scheme and National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme including delivery and management of DofE Expeditions and Expedition Training.

To assist the Group Manager in the management of the Team s works programme and to ensure appropriate and safe standards of work and activity delivery are maintained.

To supervise groups and adults during activity delivery as per Service Operating Procedures and Risk Assessments and National Guidance.

To support the team with the planning and organising of sessions courses and activities including the booking of facilities and groups and the programming of sessions and staffing.

To complete appropriate planning monitoring risk management and evaluation of sessions offsite visits and expeditions.

Ensure all offsite visits and expeditions are planned properly using the EVOLVE system to record and approve visits.

To promote and market the Young Tower Hamlets Sports Activity programme to schools organisations and residents in the borough.

To work with all members of Young Tower Hamlets to keep records reports and statistics and carry out general administrative duties including completing and collating monitoring information replying to booking enquiries and supporting with the design of the Sports & Activity Programme.

Essential Qualifications Required:

National Governing Body qualified preferably at level 2 or equivalent (E.g. competencybased training) as a coach/instructor in one or more adventurous activities / sports / physical activities.

Hold an appropriate Outdoor First Aid qualification or work towards achieving this within 6 months of appointment.

Experience of working with young people in an innercity environment

Additional information to note:

Posts are fulltime and will cover a variety of daytime evenings and weekends.

An enhanced DBS will also be required.

Agency position start date as soon as possible running until December 2024 with possible extension or opportunity to apply for a permanent position.
