Job Description

The below should be provided:

1. CV (3 years experience in the last 5 years)

2. At least 3 years of experience within the last 5 years in any of the following specialties: Family Medicine Internal Medicine Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or Occupational Medicine.

3. M.D. or D.O. and successful completion of postgraduate training.

4. BLS Certification

5. Must have a valid unrestricted medical license in at least 1 state territory or commonwealth of the U.S.

6. Immunizations / Covid 19

7. Must be a US Citizen

8. Board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine / American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians the American Board of Internal Medicine / American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation / American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or the American Board of Preventative Medicine in Occupational Medicine.

Position Title: Physician Medical Evaluation Board (Independent Contractor)

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is the oldest continuously running hospital in the Navy medical system. NMCP

has been a significant place for the treatment of the nations military and their dependents since the early 1800s.

Over 4300 Sailors and civilians work in locations from Yorktown to Chesapeake to deliver health care to the

420000 active duty members family members and retirees living in Hampton Roads.

Position Overview

The contract physician participates as a medical expert and advisor on the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB) at

NMCP consulting with and advising other healthcare professionals in managing patients medical and treatment.

The MEB compiles and reviews all medical documentation and forwards it to the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV).

The SECNAV sends it to the Physical Evaluation Board for review and approval. The contract physician will not

perform any voting or chairing functions relating to the Medical Evaluation Board (MEB). Duties include:

Provide a full range of medical duties covering diagnosis disability and processing/determination.

Review patient consults and conduct medical record reviews along with providing physical examinations to

provide input to the Department Head regarding fitness for duty determinations appropriateness of physical

readiness waivers and determinations of suitability for isolated remote overseas or operational assignment

for all referred Active Duty Reserve and Medically Retired personnel on the Temporary Disability Retire List

(TDRL).

Clinically assess patients and review medical records to determine the medical need for further clinical

evaluation.

Work Schedule

Fulltime clinic hours are Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Shifts will

typically be scheduled for 8.5 hours. At the contractors and the Governments mutual agreement alternative schedules such as compressed work schedule may be implemented.
