Job Title: Senior Area General Manager Food Services

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Senior Area General Manager to oversee and lead the daily operations of our food services team at MedStar Washington Hospital Center a renowned 900bed hospital in Washington DC. This role is critical to ensuring the delivery of highquality food and nutrition services across various platforms including patient meal services retail outlets doctors lounges and catering. The Senior Area General Manager will be responsible for driving operational excellence achieving financial targets and fostering strong client and customer relationships within a dynamic healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership:

  • DaytoDay Management: Oversee the daily operations of food services ensuring the delivery of highquality meals and exceptional service across all areas including patient services retail and catering.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance operational efficiency service quality and customer satisfaction aligning with MedStar Health s patientfirst philosophy.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant local state and federal regulations including those specific to healthcare and food service operations in Washington DC.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain and uphold standards for food safety service excellence and customer satisfaction.

Financial Management:

  • Budget Management: Develop manage and monitor budgets to meet or exceed financial targets. Oversee financial performance including cost controls revenue generation and profit margins.
  • Resource Allocation: Optimize the use of resources including labor equipment and supplies to achieve operational efficiency and financial goals.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and present regular financial reports analyzing performance metrics and making datadriven decisions to enhance profitability.

Client and Customer Relations:

  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with MedStar Washington Hospital Center s leadership and stakeholders ensuring alignment with their goals and expectations.
  • Customer Satisfaction: Foster a positive environment that prioritizes patient and customer satisfaction. Implement feedback mechanisms to continuously improve service delivery.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborate with nursing and medical staff to ensure that food services align with patient care plans and contribute to overall patient wellbeing.

Team Leadership and Development:

  • Staff Management: Lead mentor and develop a diverse team of managers and staff promoting a culture of engagement accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Training and Development: Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance the skills and knowledge of the food services team.
  • Union Relations: Manage unionized staff ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements and fostering positive labor relations.

Growth and Innovation:

  • Service Expansion: Identify and pursue opportunities for growth within the food services sector including new service offerings partnerships and technological innovations.
  • Process Improvement: Implement best practices and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency.




Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Hospitality Management Food Service Management Business Administration or a related field. Equivalent experience will be considered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food service management with at least 5 years in a leadership role preferably in a healthcare environment.
  • Proven experience in managing food and nutrition services in a hospital setting with at least 500 beds.
  • Demonstrated success in managing unionized teams and understanding of labor relations.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budget management cost control and financial reporting.
  • Experience in client relationship management with a focus on exceeding customer expectations and achieving client goals.
