What is RhizoSource

We are building a platform to turn tropical agriculture into one of the worlds biggest carbon sinks fighting climate change and smallholder farmer poverty at the same time. We are starting with cocoa where deforestation and land use change has made the crop the 2nd worst food for the environment after beef (per KG). To do so we are enabling food companies to act on their sustainability and supply chain commitments by creating a commodity procurement platform that combines the best of direct sourcing and impact.

We are a group of repeat agritech founders who have worked at unicorns and top 3 consulting agencies but also built our own agroforestry plantations and worked for years with smallholder farmers. With the early legwork and validation done we are looking for the first members of the core founding team to join us on this journey!

Tasks

What does this job entail

The Founding Engineer role is designed for an experienced FullStack Developer who has a proven track record in building both mobile (Android) and webbased applications especially in startup environments (quick paced fast changing). During the day to day you will:

• Lead the development and maintenance of our web and mobile applications.
• Architect design and implement scalable and robust solutions using Next.js TypeScript Supabase/Postgres and Android development frameworks.
• Work closely with the founding team to define design and ship new features.
• Ensure the performance quality and responsiveness of applications.
• Mentor and guide junior developers fostering a collaborative and innovative team environment.
• Handle API integrations and realtime data processing using RESTful APIs and Web Sockets.
• Continuously discover evaluate and implement new technologies to maximize development efficiency.

Requirements

Who we are looking for

• Minimum 5 years of proven experience as a Full Stack Developer.
• Extensive experience in building and deploying web applications using Next.js and TypeScript.
• Strong expertise in database management with Supabase/Postgres.
• Demonstrated experience in Android mobile app development using Java/Kotlin and UI frameworks like Jetpack Compose.
• Solid understanding of the Android SDK and proficiency with Android Studio.
• Handson experience with API integration and realtime data handling using RESTful APIs and Web Sockets.
• Previous experience working in a startup environment is highly desirable.
• Someone who works quickly ships fast and is eager to be part of this agritech transformation journey.
• A genuine passion for sustainability agriculture and technology with a keen interest in startup environments and impact ventures.
• Excellent problemsolving skills and the ability to lead and work collaboratively in a small team setting.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to convey technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders.
• Proficiency in English; French is a bonus.
• Ideally residing in Lisbon and willing to work at times from the office (Bairro Alto) with the founders. Generally we are very flexible with remote needs but at an early stage inperson time is important.
