Responsibilities:

• Providing specialized instruction to pupils to meet the goals and objectives as developed in the Individualized Education Program (IEP)
• Assessing individual students to determine present levels of performance
• Scheduling and facilitating IEP meetings as Case Manager
• Implementing the IEP with appropriate lesson plans materials and classroom strategies and preparing Individualized Education Programs
• Using effective positive behavior management techniques to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom
• Preparing schedules and timelines to implement classroom activities
• Observing and making ongoing evaluation of pupil’s academic and social growth keeping appropriate records preparing progress reports and communicating with parents on the individual pupil’s progress including completing required IEP progress reports to parents
• Cooperating with other agencies in helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems
• Mainstreaming children into integrated settings for maximum interaction with peers
• Creating a functional and attractive environment for learning through room displays bulletin boards and interest centers
• Working with Kindergarten teachers to develop individual behavioral programs

Qualifications:

• Valid California Special Education credential authorizing teaching preschool students with moderate/severe disabilities
• Specialist Credential in Special Education: Severely Handicapped
• Successful teaching experience or training in planning to implement IEP’s for special needs students
