Position Summary:
The Lead Accountant will oversee the financial accounting processes ensuring accuracy integrity and compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role involves managing the accounting team coordinating monthend and yearend close processes and providing critical financial insights to support decisionmaking. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting excellent leadership skills and the ability to thrive in a fastpaced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting:
- Prepare and present monthly quarterly and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and other regulatory requirements.
- Analyze financial data and provide insights and recommendations to management.
- General Ledger Management:
- Oversee and maintain the general ledger ensuring accurate and timely entries.
- Manage chart of accounts and ensure proper classification of transactions.
- Perform regular reconciliations of accounts including bank statements and balance sheets.
- MonthEnd and YearEnd Close:
- Lead the monthend and yearend closing processes ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and review journal entries accruals and adjustments.
- Coordinate with other departments to ensure all financial activities are captured.
- Budgeting and Forecasting:
- Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts.
- Monitor budget variances and provide explanations and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Team Management:
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team providing guidance and support.
- Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
- Foster a collaborative and highperformance work environment.
- Audit and Compliance:
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits.
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and implement improvements as necessary.
- Stay updated on changes in accounting standards and regulations.
- Ad Hoc Reporting and Analysis:
- Prepare ad hoc financial reports and analyses as required by management.
- Support special projects and initiatives with financial insights and data.
Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field.
- CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Proven experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Experience with ERP systems and accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks SAP Oracle Famous etc.).
- Previous experience in agriculture industry is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Excellent analytical and problemsolving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detailoriented with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
